Default won't start after battery disconnected

Hello
I disconnected the battery on my 01 xk8 to remove instrument cluster and replace blown bulbs, followed instructions found on U-tube video to the T
6 out off 8 bulbs were blown .Replaced and reassembled Car turned over but didn't start then battery went dead, I connected a spare battery car turns over fine but doesn't start, fuel cutoff not engaged, could this just be low battery or some other reset needed. I found it strange that radio did not need to be reset after a battery disconnect. I am currently charging battery,
Any advice would be most helpful. Oh and all bulbs in dash now light.
Thanks in advance for any help
Jeremys

When was the last time the car had run? If the battery went dead quickly it sounds as if it may have been parked for some time. The fuel pump has a habit of failing after sitting for a few weeks.

In any case disconnect the battery for a minute after recharging it to reset the systems again after being exposed to low voltage from the weak battery.

Default no start after bat disconect

Thank you for the advice, the car was sitting for about 2 weeks since last run, after recharge should I reset system by grounding Positive to Neg terminal?
Thanks for the response

A fuel pump will go bad if the car sits for a few weeks?

Yes you can do that (with a battery terminal disconnected of course), but waiting a minute or two on a simple disconnect is equivalent.

No, only if the pump is old and on its way out anyway, this often does them in on the 4.0 liter cars.

And on the occasional 4.2-litre car as well....

Thank you to all those who offered advice ,I am happy to say the issue is resolved after a full recharge and removing ground cable and touching it to the pos cable the engine started, as per another post I read I ran the car at 45-50 mph for about 45min to reset Computers? anyway runs great.
Now I've got all my dash lights back onto my next project repairing seat controls.
Thanks
Jeremy
