Just purchased a rough XKR 2003 4.2. Today I fixed a coolant leak. The car runs very rich and looses power sometimes when I push the pedal. I will receive my OBD reader tomorrow to pull codes. In the mean time I removed the MAF sensor to clean it, and realised the number might be incorrect. Cant find much info.
Its a Denso part number mb197400-3021 and also has 1X43-12B579-AB.
Ok doing further research I think this would fit a 4.2 XK8 and not the XKR. Maybe this is whats causing the car to run very badly. Seriously I dont understand why people change wrong part numbers.
I got Denso 1976040 as recommended elsewhere in the forum, now the car runs much better. No more rich fuel smell. I changed the coils and spark plugs as well, and guess what the ones on the car are wrong parts as well.
As its new to me, I will have to solve other issues with it. Next is to look at why I have all O2 sensor codes but no check engine light even after reset. I am using Foxwell NT510 elite with Jaguar software.
Thanks for everyones support. This forum is amazing.
Dargam, glad your 197 6040 works ok; USA Denso distributor ,in Calif. NOT allowed to give out part nos because of agreement with JAGUAR!! As an ex Brit I'm disgusted at Jaguar (as usual) so we now know that both 6030 & 6040 WORK! AMAZON states ONLY 6030 WORKS!

I just checked and Amazon now says the 6030 does not work for ‘02 XKR. Glad to know these will work.

yes, the 4.0 XKR cars will start and run with the 4.0 XK8 MAF sensor installed. But the calibration is not the same, and you won’t get all the performance the 4.0 XKR is capable of giving.
The only cars that use the 4.0 XKR sensor are the 4.0 engine XKR and XJR’s. That’s why they are so expensive. I got one from a Jaguar dealer for a modest discount. None of the aftermarket MAF sensors worked worth a damn. And neither did the sensor for the 4.0 XK8 even though it was a Denso.
I think sensor for the XKR ‘ XK8 4.2 models is the same, and is used on other makes as well. It’s reasonably priced. But the 4.0 XKR sensor is costly if the right one is sourced.
