Default XJ8 to XK8 floor shifter

Can anyone confirm that the floor shifter assembly from a 99-03 XJ8 is interchangeable with a 98 XK8? They look the same, and both hook up to the same transmission, but you never know sometimes.

Am I going to be a guinea pig for this? Someone has to have tried it.

I read this last night and was sure someone would already have done it. It seems not!

The Gear Change Control isn't supplied as a single component but a check of the P/N's for the major parts of Gear selection Illumination Module (item 3) and the Housing and Sleeve (item 5) shows a close match between the XK8 and XJ8:

I'd take the risk and go for it.

Hi,

I have actually done this 'conversion'. Although the XJ8 and XK8 gear selectors are similar I found that the slightly narrower transmission tunnel of the XK8 made fitting the XJ8 selector mechanism tricky. I had to cut the metal side plate of the XJ8 down by removing a redundant bracket and cutting a 'triangle' of metal away to make the selector fit. Also a base plate hole needs enlarging as the mounting studs are slightly different.

cheers

This is precisely what I was looking for, thanks very much! If cutting some metal is all it takes, I'm in.

Please take/post pics if you get the chance. It would be a very useful addition to the thread.
