hi everyone -- hope someone can answer this. i replaced my xk8 (2001) alternator with a new Bosch unit. works fine...BUT, the dash message says its not charging. battery voltage is fine, charging voltage is fine. can't shut off the dash message using any know or regular method. mechanic says it will not shut off until you replace with original jaguar part. there must be a way to resolve this and eliminate that clearly incorrect message. help please. thanks.

This is a common problem with aftermarket alternators on these cars. Always best to have your factory alternator refurbished with the correct genuine Denso kit. That is what I did back in the summer of 2018 for my wife's 2006 XK8.. No issues since....

 

How do these cars know there is a different brand of alternator installed?

 

Did it say not charging before you changed it ? Is that why you changed it ? Re set and clear all codes .
What is the charging voltage ? Is the red ignition warning light out ?

 

There is a single wire that goes from the regulator to the dashboard (major instrument pack) called "charge warning". I'm guessing that either isn't connected or whatever signal the instrument pack expects to get over that wire, isn't being sent by the non OEM regulator.

 

If that wire is connected the ignition warning light will behave correctly ..on with ignition off with engine running.

 

If that wire is connected to a genuine OEM alternator - people seem to be saying that aftermarket alternators aren't compatible.

 

Its only a wire to the top of the field diodes nothing fancy. Did he put the 3 pin plug in the right way around ?
