XK8-4.2 Difference from XK8-4.0. What to look out for when 4,2 buying?
Hi guys! I apologize if this has already been mentioned somewhere... I searched, but I couldn't find the specific difference between the 4.0L and 4.2L model lines. I've been considering buying a newer Jaguar for a while now. The choice was the six-cylinder F-type, but in the end I'm coming back to the idea of staying loyal to the X100, which I like better. I found an offer for a 2003 XK8 with a 4.2 engine, 70k miles. Imported from the USA, guaranteed - never crashed. The color is exactly the same as my current 1999 XK8. I already have a copy of the US Title. I'd like to know what to look out for with the 4.2 model, or how to find out if the car has been in an accident. Simply, what to check technically... so that I don't spend months in the workshop again, like with my current XK8. I know, there is a "better" six-speed ZF transmission, no need to worry about nicasil, timing belt tensioners, the thermostat tower has already been replaced, the headrests do not work (I have already watched the repair videos). Otherwise everything works, no warning light! Are there also problems with shock absorber mounting like in older models? I solved it with my XK8 by mounting it from "Baxtor". Which works great! Please advise me what to ask the seller and what photos to request, even before I send him a deposit? Is it possible to find out the crash by VIN? (It doesn't work very well in the Czech Republic). The car is already in the EU, but not in our country. So I can't see it in person. Thank you for any advice. This forum and the helpful people on this forum are a great help. Thanks for everything!
Ask the seller for the Carfax report. It documents maintenance, the number of previous owners and accidents. If the seller does not have a Carfax report, I would be cautious.
Best regards, Willi
Yes, you can expect to need to change out the shock mounts on any X100. I also used Baxtor's mounts, very happy with them!
You can ask if the transmission oil has been replaced, but chances are the answer is no since it's not on the maintenance schedule. Probably something you should plan get done at some point if you buy it.
Good luck!
The plastic coolant tower above the water pump will degrade over the years and cause leaks. The replacement is not difficult and some new A/M aluminum ones from China are being used with success. AJ89486 is part # on EBay. Several members have reported back on their install of these items. Hopefully the car has the Torx head bolts , a bit less trouble to removes
Hi Gang...
After long evenings spent alternately here on this great forum and alternately browsing the X100 and F-type offers, the matter suddenly resolved itself. When my wife and I discovered an advertisement for the sale of a 2017 F-type in British racing green, with a brown roof, only 53 thousand kilometers on the clock and in beautiful condition just 1000 km from us, by the Baltic Sea, it was decided! A Christmas trip combined with buying a Jaguar... that would be the right thing! So as you can see in my signature, the car is at home... I don't want to sell the XK-8 yet... But we'll see what time will tell. Thanks to everyone for the valuable advice. I'll stay on the forum with gratitude!
European Union (this is refueling in Poland) Unleaded petrol is always green and diesel is always black! Here on the gas station there are two types of diesel - black handles. Regular and premium (premium diesel tends to have less bio-****). There are also two types of petrol - the handle is always green. 95 and 100 octane.
