Default XK8 Boot Lifting

99 XK8, first time I put the boot on it never budged even at 70 on the highway. Yesterday I put it on, and at 60 it was trying to fly up and off. Any trick to keepin it down? Anyone ever attempt to put velcro on the flap and the back of the rear seat?

This should not happen.

-Is the front flap tucked in behind the seats?

-Are the two snaps fastened down?

-Are the three loops with plastic catches seated under the trunk seal?

yes to all of the above, seems the pass side by the snap is allowing air to get under it and in turn the front flap iscoming up

I have noticed if the wind is strong and coming at the perfect angle, the cover will lift.

Before I got my wind deflector I noticed that the tonneau cover would sometimes lift when I passed a big truck with the wind coming from just the right direction. Since I installed the wind deflector is has never happened. Before I installed it I tried taking some self-adhesive velcro and sticking it to the back of the seat and the flap on the tonneau, but the sticky stuff just melted in the heat and it left a gooey mess.

It doesn't take much to hold the tonneau down. If you don't mind modifying the car you could install some kind of snap on the tonneau and a matching snap on the back of the seat. Or, you could sew some velcro in place, or maybe use some of that red 3M double-sided tape to stick some velcro in place. Or, you could just buy a wind deflector.

I suppose it is also possible that the springs in your cover snaps are not gripping like they used to. The snaps are replaceable: pn JZY100013. Not exactly cheap hardware though at about $17 apiece.

pics! I've never had an issue with the cover at highway speeds. Of course, I don't do +80, which probably isn't recommended by jaguar, and is most likely mentioned in the manual somewhere (in fine print?).

Yours look like this?

The solution is to SEW the 'J' hook side of the Velcro to the boot and it will firmly attach to the back of the rear seat, at least in my car. No glue.

I've got the Adamesh Wind Deflector and did have the cover lift, but not pop the fastener, with just the right wind gust coming cross-wise. Forward speed was about 50 MPH at the time.

Now for the comment about 80+, on the same trip I "inadvertently" hit 122 MPH passing a semi-trailer with no crosswind and no lifting of the cover.

Could be a fastener problem as was previously suggested.

Cheaperts, There was a discussion not too long ago as to whether or not the cover gets tucked in at the corner of the seat. I do tuck and never had a problem with lift. I don't drive fast, highway speed plus. Jersey troopers are sneeky. Jack

I've come to the conclusion that the corners must be tucked very well and almost square at the corners (seatbelt slot), the snaps are good they never came loose but the center was blowing up totally free of the seat. The last few days not issue and 70-80 no prblem, but I'm still gonna go with putting the hook side of velcro on the boot flap and let it grab the seat back, just to be safe....boots been on for the last 4 days straight!
