Default XK8 issues in Miami, anyone know anyone?

My 97' XK8 ran great for 20K+ miles and then on the highway it stumbled a few times then was fine... next day a little more... the next day died out when put into drive off a cold start, continued to do this on the next 10 miles and has been parked ever since.

Now if I can get the car started it dies out right away and cannot be driven...

Check engine light has gone off and on periodically over the past 20K miles, check engine light is now on, haven't found anyone with a scanner that can come to me.

I disconnected the battery, let sit for about 10 minutes and reconnected that is all I have done.

I haven't done anything but a few oil changed on the car... not really mechanical so haven't checked for fuel pressure, air filter etc.

Anyone in the Miami know anyone that could help me get this sorted out?

Yes I have heard of them I am trying to avoid towing it somewhere and looking for someone mobile to come scan the codes or basic trouble shooting at least to start... anyone know of anyone down here? Thanks!

Of course we need the codes to help.

See if a local auto parts store will 'loan' you a reader. Alternatively, order a ELM327 OBDII to BlueTooth converter for $10 off eBay and get the free TORQUE app for an Android phone. Pretty cheap reader.

The issues you describe seem symptomatic of a throttle body problem common to the early cars but codes would certainly help.

I heard the regular auto parts store readers are the basic types and don't show the more advanced Jaguar codes?

Nothing you describe is 'advanced'.

If I had to guess, and this would be strictly a guess and nothing more bc I haven't seen the car, it sounds like a fuel pump failure to me. BUT as all have said we need the codes before we can point you in the proper direction.

ELM327 OBDII - will this read ALL Jaguar codes?

I would START with the standard OBDII code reader (get a free loaner from Advance Auto Parts or Autozone) and report back what that tells you... that will definitely narrow down the issue for you.

No it won't but it will read the most common PXXXX powertrain codes which will probably help you.
