In my efforts to repair the convertible top, I took down the overhead console only to find it was stuck in place with Weird Black Goop.
The over head bracket (HJA2057AB) has been ordered since that was broken. However, one of the 2 gold tabs that fits into the slot has been broken off the bottom as well. I still have that brass colored piece and can probably get the glue and plastic out of it. Does anyone have a suggestion for remounting it to the bottom/main part of the upper console?
Here are some pics.

Yellow circle shows opposite side tab correctly in place.
If you have all the pieces, you might try glueing it back together. I think it's ABS plastic so something like plumbers' pipe cement would work.
Horrible bit of flimsy engineering and those clips are far too aggressive, IMO. I squeezed them in somewhat with pliers so they don't fit as tight in the bracket.
I second the buy another one idea. I went through a dozen iterations of gluing melting (plastic solder), propping . . .
No real success. Sure a puddle of epoxy worked for 6 month increments (once 18 months, once 6 months. . .) But it always was that foggy night when my friendly console would decide to "drop in" and flop around (ha ha). If yours is like the 1998 layout - no, there's no way to velcro it in place. No way to fashion a hold down (I mean up) pin, gluing in place is way too permanent for this piece.
Sorry, I prefer to give options, but to my surprise an entire replacement was still available last year. And it wasn't even expensive enough for me to remember the price.
If you find some way to secure it, please do share. My ego can take it :-), though I admit spending way too much time trying to fashion a way!

John
thanks John! I am in a more time than money phase but you have made a very convincing argument! I will likely cave eventually! Many thanks again for your substantive reply.
No special tools required. Just folded it in a vice. As long as the square slots are in the correct position you will have no issues. I cut the square slots by drilling holes and filing it square. Colour is not an issue you cannot see it when it’s installed. I painted mine body colour. When made from steel there is no need of the bracing webs and features found on the plastic original.
