I had a 2001 XK8 Convertible that had a very handy strap to ease the closing of the trunk without putting finger prints all over the top of the trunk lid. My recently acquired 2006 Coupe, however, does not have the strap.

My question is when did Jaguar stop including the strap, or is this just a matter of the strap not being a part of the coupe? Second, any suggestions as to where one could buy a replacement strap? And third, as my memory is short, if anyone has the time to post or send me a scan of their XK8 with a strap, that would be appreciated as I do not recall exactly where and how it was attached to the underside of the trunk lid. (My thought is that I may simply make one out of leather and attach it.)

I have a 2000 Coupe, which has no Trunk Handle, nor have I ever heard of one. Maybe is was a customization? If not, I'm sure that someone will chime in.

Hmm. Perhaps the strap came only with the convertible. In any case, I will be near a dealer in the next few days and will check. Hopefully they will have a 2006 or earlier convertible on their lot.

 

I also have an 01 convertible and it has the strap. It comes in handy. It also makes it easier to reach the trunk when my kids are trying to help with packages and what not.

 

I have a 2001 XKR convertible without a strap The JTIS manual shows one but I don't think there was ever was one mounted . I could not find any holes in the liner I didn't even know it was suppose to have one. It looks like it would be a nice addition

Buy a leather belt, cut to about 12 inches and mount it as this strap is mounted.

 

The trunk lid strap was standard on convertibles from at least 2001 on. I took a look at my '06 and it is mounted on the first lid liner hole to the right of the latch.

2000 XK8 Convertible with a strap here, so definitely before 2001 they had them.

The real story is, there is a technician dispatched by Jaguar to install these straps as part of the Pre Delivery Inspection. Next time you're at your dealer, ask for Jaques.

 

2006 XK8, the strap inside trunk that you use to pull trunk closed broke loose, does anyone know how to reinforce it?
