Default Xk8 values increasing?

Just watched a 2000 XK8 conv black on black sell for $19K at the Barrett Jackson NE auction. Nothing special about the car
Hopefully prices are moving up

had to have had LOW miles, folks at BJ are not dumb to bring these cars in there and expect big bucks.

The trend is upward. A number of early XK8's drop tops going for large numbers. Book values are based on auction prices. This Northeast show as with the last few Barrett Jackson Auctions have brought large numbers , and as you say, nothing special about the sold auction cars. I'm going to Barrett Jackson Auction Saturday. Should be fun.

Around here it seems as though the early XK8s have hit the bottom of the curve. Nowhere to go but up. And they should, as they are beautiful if nothing else. I've even noticed a rise in the asking prices of XJS'. Don't know what the selling prices are. These are another bottom of the curve car.

The auction is at an Indian Casino right down the road from me. Spoke to a couple people who were there the last couple of days and they said the prices on cars were all over the place. Nice stuff going cheap and average stuff bringing in good money. Not sure if it's uneducated local buyers or just the crowd. They also said at times, the bidders area was almost empty.

In L.A. the 4.2 XKR's south of 100k mi are selling for $15k. The early XK8's have bottomed out at $5k for the last few years.

The 79K mile 1998 sold for $13,500 + buyers fee. The 2000 right before it sold for $15K. This was Thursday night and the hall wasn't full.

BJ has sold a bunch of XK8's and prices are way higher than "street" prices.

Went to Barrett Jackson Auction Sat the 25th. Spotted at least 8 XK8- convertibles, 1997 to 2002. One sold for $ 8,800, balance $ 11,000 and up to $ 20,350. Most expensive; my 2000 w 19k odo. next my 2002 w/43k @ $ 18,700. MY 2000 w 89k -
$ 18,150. All needed some type of cosmetic work, paint, interior, missing parts. Who knows about mechanical. I'd have to say Forum members have more love and detail about your cars than those sold at auction. Yes, seems like prices are going up. Did see a very nice 90 XJs drop top go for $ 21k. Rich

I noticed a pronounce rake on the car that sold for $13,500. A sure sign of the need for a full front suspension rebuild. The new owner is in for another $1000 if he intends to enjoy it. The new owner received many "High Fives" from the crowd, so he's got that going for him.

Purchased my car for excitement and enjoyment. Additional benefits such as admiration and compliments are "icing on the cake". Not concerned about resale and "too many miles" :-)
