They just snap on/off. Grab them and pull. The fabric has a thin foam backing that rots after a few years and leaves the fabric loose. Replacement fabric is readily available at a local auto upholstery shop or on line. About $50 per yard (min). You will need a can of 3M spray adhesive to attach the new material.

Overall, because of the cost of the material and adhesive, neither of which you are going to use much of, it may be less expensive to pay an upholstery shop to do it.

I have the same problem and was wondering about how to fix it. Thanks for the how-to.

Yup, same here. I just smooth it out as often as I can.

I have the correct headliner material in stock... $20.00 buys you enough to cover both A pillar trims. PM me if you are interested.

JTO, welcome back!

I'll take you up on that as long as it is the proper material. Have been postponing that little job due to having to leave 80% of the minimum order orphaned. I have done headliners before and it is not at all difficult. Now if I can find someone to share the $15 can of 3M spray contact adhesive.

Tom, if you are near Southern Maryland, stop on by my house. I have a can of the 3M adhesive sitting in my garage that I don't know what to do with and there is more there than I can use at the moment. But, I keep it around as it does come in handy at times. I'm sure we could get you taken care of in a jiffy.

Thanks for the offer but MD is about 800 miles up the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Well . . . I might drop by anyway.

How hard do you have to pull? I tried last night and it isn't easy, plus I'm hearing a fabric-tearing sound when I try to pull hard, so I quit. Is that okay? I expected a quick snap.

I just started at a corner and worked/pried it off. The fabric is trash anyway. If I remember correctly there is really nothing to break.

Test point, if I can get a meet together in say DC, I'm sure we can get a group of us together and talk cars for a bit.

Test Point, DC, as in Washington DC. So, no. Granted, it would be interesting to see if there would be a group that would want to meet in say Charlottesville at say the Lowe's Motor Speedway. That way we have some entertainment and can talk cars too. I can see it now, 20 jags all meeting at some parking lot off site, pulling into the parking lot of the speedway nose to tail, doing some "tailgating" prior to the race and then enjoying a race. I can see it now.

There is going to be over a hundred Jaguars in Little Switerland, NC (Blue Ridge Parkway between Asheville and Blowing Rock) this coming weekend at a JCNA event. Still negotiating with wife on that.

I have toured with a motorcycle group for years and have had a great time. Would like to see an XK8/R tour of the BR Parkway and Skyline Drive. One group could start on the north end and one on the South and meet somewhere about the NC/VA state line for a 'show off the car' party.

Default wrinkled pillars

Well..waddaya know. I have wrinkled pillars too. I swear I did not have them before I had the dreaded hydraulic leak in the top hoses. I just assumed the dealer did a poor job of reinstalling after the repair. Now know what to do about it.

JTO

Andrew,

Thanks for the sample but it is substantially darker than my light gray. That makes me concerned about ordering it on line. I am sure that it wouldn't be a problem if you were replacing the entire interior but for only the 'A' pillar covers it needs to match.

Ok then...I presumed it was the same color as the '99 XJR grey: the headliner I replaced in that car was a perfect match to the original sun visors. So the XK grey is different, or it ends up that way after years of sunbleaching in a southern convertible.

I just finished renewing a headliner in a 1997 XK8 coupe (oatmeal fabric color), and now I'm recovering the rear tonneau panel. When I remove the upholstered blanking cover for the premium sound speaker recess, the difference in color caused by the sun bleaching was dramatic. The fabric around the hole is far lighter than that which was under the cover and concealed from the sunlight.

I'm convinced the sample I sent you was correct, and now you are faced with finding the wrong stuff to match what you have on adjacent panels. Good luck.
