Default Xkr 1999 poor performance

Hey,

My xkr takes 6.2sec from 0-60mph and 6.6sec from 0-100kph.
Al looks normal no error or obd2 codes. Fuel consumption is 18mpg.
What could cause this power loss ? it should at least come close to factory specs ? Any ideas ?

Samuel

Do a compression check you have probably lost a few horses over the years

I Will check the compression, however there is very little oil usage.
Its as fast as my 22year old bmw 540i with 250dkm. It should be faster !
I have noticed that my bank 2 lambda is failing. And it reads 0.02volts all the time. It has been replaced once before. Maybe the catalyst converter is failing also. I will change the fuel filter today and also clean the egr system.

A tune up may be in order. A car this old is probably down on power about 20% just due to wear on the sensors and wearing parts. If you are serious, replace the O2 sensors, the spark plugs, the filters, put in synthetic oil, replace the MAF sensor, have the injectors cleaned and matched, check the vacuum to look for intake leaks, then see how it feels, it should be noticeably quicker. Anyone who wants an XKR would be eager to keep it in top order to keep the thrill.

I for one believe strongly in diagnostics (rather than replacing parts, weather they're needed or not). I should say I am in NO MEANS experienced with Jaguar, however I am quite experienced in Automobiles in general. I've owned a collision repair shop for 20+ years and worked as a tech, before that. I also developed friendships with mechanics and mechanical shop owners through the years and have had many conversations regarding common AND unusual repairs.

A common diagnostic test is fuel pressure under load, but a related test is fuel VOLUME at load....

I would perform this test before an outlay of money and labor. I understand someone that works on Jags mainly, may have encountered your condition previously and may be aware of the COMMON causes.

You might check you throttle cable adjustment. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...estored-38663/

It would help the knowledgable people here to post some data from an OBDII program if you can get ahold of one. Maybe fuel trims, fuel pressure, airflow, throttle opening, etc might give them some sense of how your engine is working. And yeah, that cable adjustment has many fans, quick and easy thing to try. Good luck and don't get arrested.

Well it looks like my left catalytic converter has failed. It makes a rumbling noise when i kickdown. And i had a bad o2 sensor some time ago, making it run much to rich. Does anyone have experience with the catalytic convert sold on ebay ?
The are very cheap 125$ a piece or i have to bite the bullet and get a pair of race cats
