Question XKR Model 2002 / lock door issue / flapping

Hello
For some time now, the opening of my jaguar, manually (Key) or with the remote control has gone wrong. The opening continuously switches between closing / opening. To stop this, I have to operate the opening handle, or from time to time by pressing the remote control several times, it stops. This problem appeared intermittently a few months ago, now it is noticeable.
Thank you in advance for your advice / help
... which part is involved , how to start diagnostic
Best Regards
Jean-Denis

Jean-Denis,

There's a number of possibilities but at the age of our cars, my initial guess would be failing micro switches in your door latch mechanism. Good news is that it is possible to replace the microswitches, very cheaply, but lots of people just replace the unit (which is separate from the key barrel.) Lots of info on this forum for the DIY job. Youtube link below

A possible temp. fix, which has worked for some, is to spray lube liberally into the mechanism, but eventually you'll need to address the failing microswitches.

Don't replace the whole lock, that is a waste of money and time. A second hand lock will probably go wrong as well like mine did. Replace the micro switch inside with this part https://www.mouser.co.uk/ProductDeta...bmV1GL5XiBIQ== You will need to bend the lever and cut the middle wire out but it works perfectly. I used soem thin cable ties to keep it secured.

Before doing anything else check your battery - a weak battery can also have this effect.

In the trade this is known as bounce . Lubrication only makes it worse . The standard cure is a pad of foam or felt between the body and the handle operating rod to add some friction.
