XKR Silverstone blank nav screen
Hi all,
i am restoring an XKR Silverstone coupè. I am facing an issue with sat-nav: as i switch it, the screen stay black, but i am able to see it is switched on (a little glowing surround the screen). Seems more that is stucked, like if somebody has tried a bad update. Dvd is loaded correctly in the bay, and the dvd is original. I have read in some old thread that should exist a startup dvd, but i have not been able to find it. I enclose a picture of the car, as you can see rims are under rebuid......
Any suggestion?

Will the Nav DVD eject? If so it's worth cleaning the disc and trying again. Also worth checking all the connections at back of Nav and DVD changer in the boot. The same thing happened on my 2001 XKR - had intermittent problems with blank Nav screen - managed to keep it going for a few months but then packed in completely - I ended up replacing the whole Nav unit. Managed to source one on ebay for about £30 at the time.

slightly trim a nice picture to fit the space and forget it
or
have a backup camera installed
The nav is a pain to input with that joystick, and all smartphones beat it handily for navigation

I agree that the factory nav isn't very useful anymore, but I'm guessing he wants to keep it original if going through the trouble of a restoration.
In the event that your nav unit is no longer functioning, I will have mine for sale late this summer; let me know if you're in need. Thanks

Another option since the Nav screen is working but the Nav isn't is to find a Garmin GVN-53, which is designed to replace factory Nav systems. I did this with my Nav system and am very happy. I don't think Garmin makes the GVN-53 any more but you might be able to find one on eBay.

If we're discussing other options, I should throw the nav-to-3-gauge conversion into the ring. WhiteXKR, a member here, offers a conversion kit that makes it very simple to switch out the nav for the factory 3-gauge cluster.
The gauges are much more useful (w/ RealGauge, especially) and classic-looking, in my opinion, than the outdated factory nav. I'm not sure what shape your dash veneer is in, but that is the only potential for added expense; you'll need a set that can accommodate the gauges.
