XKRs no sound from headunit.
Hi all I am in the UK and I have a very late registered XKRs with the Alpine sound system. Suddenly there is no sound, the head unit works just fine but no sound from speakers. It doesn't matter the source. I have checked all the fuses listed both on US and UK guides and the ones in the handbook for the car and all are ok. I have had the centre console out and checked the back of the head unit and both the yellow and white connectors are in place. It all points to the power amp in the boot/trunk is there any way to test that it is powering up. Scratching my head here at the moment.
Yes checked fuse 18, even replaced it just in case, I will check for heat and fan. is the amp live when head unit on or when ignition on, if only when head unit has it got a signal input to trigger it, does it use the same signal as the antenna? is there a link between the two?
This has got me wondering if its something to do with the mute button? Or even the phone, if you have one.
I would try pushing the buttons that separate the different functions, bottom left of head unit. Its often the simplest explanations that are the best. (I did read the "no matter the source" bit)
Another thing to try in case it is something to do with the above is a battery reset, you will need your radio code though. If it is functions gone wrong that should reset them.

I have already tried the power off and leave for 10 mins. but nothing. The amp does not heat up and there is no noise if there is a fan in it. has anyone got the colour codes for the cables so I can try to put power direct to it as it seems there is either no power getting to it or its gone pop.

Notice the VIN # applicability on page 3 and the print you want is on page 76 and the 3 different stereo system options on the following pages .
Notice the F31 fuse on the Brown / Red wire

The 2003 JTIS wiring diagram linked to by Lady P in post #9 is the most recent, AFAIK.
I imagine that you have the NAV system so communication between the head unit/CD player is routed through the NAV module.
Might be as simple as loose connectors at the amp?
Power to the amp is always present irrespective of the ignition switch state, on IC16-3 and IC16-9 (brown/green wires):

So I am at a loss now. All connectors are sound all fuses are replaced, there is power at the amp but still no sound, I am starting to think its the amp has gone....
I have removed it and as per a lot of Jaguars there is evidence of water seeping in around the boot/trunk opening seam weld lines. There is some rust on the case of the amp so looks like its been dripped on over the years.
Trying to find a replacement amp to try now.......may take a while

Yes nothing from any source. All sources seem to work/have power. you can change discs in the changer, the phone is still connected via bluetooth but no sound but I can search and make a call from the head unit. I am now using contact cleaner on everything to see if I can get anything back.
So after much head scratching and testing I can confirm that it was the power amplifier located in the CD NAV stack that had gone. Eventually found a replacement second hand and its all working fine now. Thanks for everyones input. now to try to get my airbag light turned off....
