Default X-Type non starting

Well Guys,
The sad tale is now even sadder. Having lived with my xtype's inconsistent starting (sometimes a dozen cranks to get it going) Sometimes it just fired straight away. I am now unable to start at all.
Diagnostics tell me that it may be ACU - Crankcase strobe sensor -
I have tested fuel pump - plenty of pressure. I have replaced fuel filter. I have replaced Crankcase stroke sensor.
I am dealing with an electrical fault and feel the ACU unit might be the culprit - anyone got any ideas ?
The car when it runs goes beautifully.
The only other clue I can give is that sometimes when I am repeatedly trying to start I get loud POP from under the bonnet area. Suppose somewhat similar to a gas escape.
This baby looks like it is going to be standing from now on unless someone know how to rescue one sicko jaguar.
regards
Ray

Ray,

I've moved your question from UK & Eire Region to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I'm gonna guess that what is a Crank Strobe Sensor is a CPS on my side of the big lake. If so, those are the correct symptoms for that issue.

Thank you my friend. I sincerely hope so, as this issue is doing my head in. Locating such a fault is a nightmare - so many variables could or might come into play. I basically have a great looking car, but it just sits there useless.
best wishes

Ray,

Have you read any diagnostic codes?

What led you to diagnose a problem with "crankcase strobe sensor"?

JTIS shows P0335 and P0336 as DTCs for crankshaft position sensor failure. For DTC P03335, JTIS states the following:

"Note: If CKP Sensor fault exists and engine will not start, battery voltage must drop below 10.5 V during cranking for DTC to be flagged. (Crank period – 30 seconds.) If CKP Sensor fault exists, engine will start on the second crank as the ECM will default to CMP signals for synchronization."

If you have not logged a DTC, try cranking until battery voltage drops below 10.5 volts. According to the note above, after P0335 is set, the ECU defaults to camshaft position information and should start on the second attempt to start.

I have changed the CPS - lower and also top front sensor (small one) my reader gives the following codes
P0335 - CPS A circuit
P1647 Management control
P1000 Management Control

The car started after much cranking today - this has been a feature for sometime.
Just how many CPS are there - it does appear that there are 3.
This is for me a major problem as I cannot now use the vehicle with any reliability of restarting if I actually go anywhere.
The petrol pump has been tested - plenty of pressure
The petrol filter has been changed.
Apart from scrapping this heap have you any idea what I can try next.
