There does seem to be a bit of coolant around the injectors (from upper two side coolant sc lid inlet hoses). I'm guessing it could seep past injector? Is it worth removing/cleaning up and obviously replacing injectors while in there? I know expensive and easier said than done? Not sure what else to check with these misfires

@Ksducati That area should be dry by now after your repair - are you seeing wet coolant now? It means you still have a leak. If it pools around the injectors or spark plugs it could be the cause of your symptoms. Water and/or coolant over time can seize the injectors making them extremely difficult to remove.

Did your coils test OK?

Robtrt8 thank you very much as I have read many times from Jaguar to ONLY rotate the engine in the forward direction. But they never explained why? We had some people mention bearing damage but never any talk about timing chains on the fuel pumps and the valve train. It does make sense too.

Swapped coils and same issue-no changes. The coolant around edge of injectors was from removing those darn upper inlet hoses to supercharger lid (hopefully a fairly accurate description? there's two on each side of motor)
I used a pile of q tips to carefully absorb most coolant around the two injectors..sprayed with pb blaster.. will let it sit until tomorrow when injector removal tool arrives. UNFORTUNATELY they seem to be fairly in there while wiggling them a bit so I REALLY hope they aren't brutally seized. I'll go for the new injectors route and update you guys. Had it on the "preventative" to do list anyways. Like to tackle these things on my own terms and time but looks like it's a decent next step. Maaaan fingers crossed.

I don't think OP has a skipped fuel timing chain. It would run like dog **** (which by all measures it seems like it is) but a lot of fuel only codes.
My other shop contact in Algonquin, IL consulted with me on this - they have done 5-10 Range Rover 5.0 fuel pump chains. They stretch or whatever the actual root cause is, some snap or jump timing.

https://www.rangerovers.net/threads/...2-5-0l.359431/ for example. Its a huge job. This troubleshooting should still follow simplest form tracing, hopefully to the benefit of OP.

thank you, ill keep that in mind if these darn injectors don't do the trick. Aaah yes, my wife is from algonquin- awesome area they actually have land lol, chicago we're lucky enough to have a driveway and attached garage with the sad little 20x20 yard. Truly hope I don't need a shop after all this work..not sure what my next step will be after the injector project. Hopefully they come out FAIRLY easy. I hear head removal sometimes occurs although there's a good YouTube video on a guy using an extractor too- fingers majorly crossed and praying to anybody willing to hear the prayer.

Side note the vap springs went on smoothly and car sits a lot better. Wheels and big brakes are a week out from delivered. It sure would stink to have a weak motor with all the updates.
thank you,
Kevin

Note that if you’re buying replacement injectors, there are threads on here about counterfeit injectors. One more thing to worry about.

@Ksducati Damn, I was really hoping it was just some wet coils causing these problems.

Can you smoke test your intake and other vacuum/positive pressure lines?

I don't think any fluid could have gotten past your injectors - that's a tight seal. The "seizing" process takes a while to happen, months at least. It would be too much of a coincidence if it happened with the work you did, especially multiple injectors. I am just putting myself in your and @Trainingdragon's position because I have to do this job soon myself.

If you do go the injector route, here is how to spot a fake:

Wow thanks everyone. I don't feel quite so alone in this game. Hmmm not much of a game more like a mini nightmare. What should have been a fairly simple job has turned out to be so much more complicated and going way past my knowledge base. I've been tied up with work most of the week so no time on the car. I have parts arriving soon and i need to set up a good day/time for my buddy to come and help. I'm hoping with his vast overall car experience he will spot a very obvious blunder on my part after we pull it all apart again. And maybe if I'm lucky it's the intake gaskets that I used twice and maybe they aren't sealing well. I can't help but wonder if it has anything to do with the symposer nonsense since that's the only real change I've made other than aluminum coolant pipes and cleaning the valves. But it seems so many people have removed the sypmoser with no issues at all. I thought about putting it back to see if that makes any difference but it seems like maybe a dumb idea and it's not fun trying to fit that contraption back in.

So once again I sure appreciate the friendship on here and reading about other folks in a similar boat.

keep it coming and I'll share my updates as well.

ksducati, can you refresh my memory, what issues are you having and what do you think triggered it? It's probably in this very long thread by I couldn't find it. It sounds like you are in a similar pickle but I forgot what your situation is.

same, yes I'd happily buy some coils right now if it fixed the issue. I'd even buy them from the dealership 😎
I've never done the smoke test but have heard about it and will look into it. I figured fluid couldn't get past the injectors, that's good. I did clean up the area and sprayed em down with pb so hopefully today the injector puller arrives and hopefully the injectors actually come out-new ones should arrive Monday so will have to wait of course(if I even get them out).
Thanks for the constant help and potential things to look at, I'll be sure to update the forum on what the fix is if found.

ksducati sounds like you and I are fighting similar battles. Sorry, I couldn't find it but what drove your issue? Did you also replace the coolant pipes and you ended up with misfires as well or did you do different work?

So I've been following a lot of discussion about coolant dripping down on the coils possibly causing issues. I don't recall coolant ending up on my coil area BUT, even though I drained the coolant from the radiator and the block (not fun putting that plug back in btw) when I pulled off the lower coolant pipe by the oil cooler, lots of coolant came out and ran down the front of the engine to the ground. Does anyone know if there is anything in front of the engine that coolant could have affected or ruined?

I did the coolant pipes, thermostat and water pump just for preventative maintenance. While the car sat over the winter I did several other things like vap's tune/pulley and mina intake and new spark plugs. At the end I was left with this rough idle misfire issue. I'll attempt the fuel injectors next but ultra annoying, not sure what to tackle after this but hopefully it works. I'll keep ya posted.
I was curious too on if there's anything that could have possibly been ruined with coolant leaking on the front lower motor (the NEW oem replacement water pump I installed had Leaked from the pulley and re-hosed everything with more coolant 😡. Tried to clean it up and hoped it didn't ruin anything.

ksducati. Thanks so what you did is certainly similar to what I did but you did even more yet it seems that we may have the same problem. I only did coolant pipes, symposer delete, and cleaned the valves, and yes rotated the motor to close certain valves but 99% sure I rotated the motor clockwise. Oh and I ended up replacing the oil cooler as I bent up the small pipe that comes out of to the back of the water pump. But I used a genuine Jag part. When I start mine, right from the start it sounds like it's misfiring. I know my car well enough to know what it should sound like. So it sounds like we may have the same problem. Not sure about yours but mine ran perfect before I started this job so it has to be tied to something I did or did not do. I"m going to be following along to see how yours progresses as we may be able to help each other through this craziness.

wild, yes sounds very similar. I partially wish I had only done one project, "fix", or upgrade at a time so that from start to finish you can then drive the car confirming that all works the way it was intended. With ours, we did several things all at once (mine because of winter and boredom preventative stuff so I thought) making it harder to narrow down. I am attempting the injectors next lol I know shotgun parts but ya know I really did have it on my list of things to tackle with age and horror stories of these becoming welded in basically. The puller is arriving today and hopefully injectors Monday. I'll keep ya updated. And please let me know if you have any ideas.

Sounds good and I agree. My Type R is a 2016 with about 43k miles on it so not high mileage. And even though I play, I don't drive the car to it's limits and it's never been tracked. I'm curious what your injectors look like when you get them out. Can you add photos when you remove them. I'm curious how gunked up they might be oh and I'm curious what your mileage is as well.

absolutely will add a picture of the injectors. I have 2016 s 6spd with 29k miles. Ended up with the s after finding out jag didn't make a manual trans with the v8-sure wish they did that would have been fun!
