As part of my "mini customisation" of my V8S I am planning to replace the existing mirror covers with a set of gloss black painted ones (yes I'm a cheapskate not carbon fibre)
Looking at the fitting instructions for the c/f ones the first thing to do is remove the mirror glass, no hint though as to how to do this :-(
I've tried various techniques, pulling from one side, both sides, lifting top and bottom.. nothing. At least I haven't broken the glass yet!
What's the secret?
Typically these mirrors are clipped on to the circular shaped motor. You have to typically adjust the mirror all the way one direction, and grab the back of the glass an pull/twist until the mirror pops off. You do have to pull quite hard and I have broken glass in the past; you just have to be very careful and try to get in quite deep.

I'd read this thread before I started. It was the fact they didn't "pop off" as described that I thought I must be doing something fundamentally wrong.
I changed my mirror covers for cf ones and all i did was pull the covers off, i didnt remove the glass!!
Yikes! Not sure how you did that without releasing / breaking the tabs on the cover.
To remove the mirror cover without the risk of breaking the tabs, you do need to remove the glass. It pops off very easily with a little force. Don't worry about breaking the mirror glass. It has a solid backing as illustrated in Stohlen's picture. You will then be able to access the tabs to release the cover. Pry the tabs with a flathead screwdriver to release them and slide the cover away from the assembly. Slide the new cover onto the assembly until the tabs snap into place. Then snap the mirror glass back into place and you are good to go.
I changed mine, mirror glass comes off easily as do the caps. As mentioned tilt mirror glass all the way to one side, insert 2-3 fingers and pull mirror off. Then use something to push the linking pin off the cover and pull cover off. Very easy.
Mina's mirror caps are not replacement there are to be glued with silicone over the existing ones and depending on base color (contrast) very visibly so.
Mina mirror covers are put on with double stick tape -- if your mirrors are not black the base color might be slightly visible but it's an easy fix --- just put 1/4 inch black striping tape on the mirror edge -- I did it on red mirror covers and it looks perfect !!
I think the Mina covers are more than acceptable. For the price they work great. If the edge bothers you then go for the $900 at the dealer. I bought all 3 Mina trim kits and am very satisfied, and spent far less than cost of just the mirrors at the dealer. No one seems to notice they are covers.
