Going in tomorrow for oil change and installation of the center dash speaker. Should round out the rest of car mod's made, and actually excited about it prior to the nice weather breaking. Will report out afterwards.

Do you have the replacement part number for the center dash speaker you are going to use? Can you have some photos taken of the install with grille off? Thanks.

Had some good weather yesterday so cracked on with replacing the speakers with the meridian signature line speakers. Not a hard job to do, and probably took about 2 hours in total to do both sides including Dynomating the doors. For those interested in doing the same thing I took a video of me doing the second door which is on you tube
which explains how easy it is.

So after investing a few hundred in new speakers, was it worth it ? Well I have to say its better.... but still doesnt raise the audio to the level I would like. There is more bass, but it also seems to have lifted treble as well. I need to play around with the settings a bit, but my view is that its an improvement rather than a step change. I suspect for me the the 380w amp is the problem now, and unfortunately I cant do anything about that with spending thousands on external amps.

Hi and happy to ask him to get the part number, and the pics as he does it for me.
I hope he remembers to do the latter, and the former is easier (as I pay for it, and it should show on receipt).

Myself and another forum member who's an audio specialist are working on a fix for the 380W Meridian cars with the new NLI system. The XE, XF, Discovery Sport and other models with the NLI 380W Meridian all have the same shortcomings as the F-Type, we have a plan for a cost-effective plug & play upgrade, it's in the pipeline...

If you look earlier in this post you will see a picture of the centre console speaker housing. All you have to do is pry of the grill and plug the speaker in. The part number for the centre speaker is C2Z22817.

Paul, great video. Thank you for posting. Do you think the dynomat has helped (e.g. Less rattle, tighter bass, etc?)

I just watched the video & was surprised that he covered the door skin. Is this the fix being performed by others? When my car was updated they insulated the door card.

Thought I'd start with the door skin first. Rattles in the door card are next if I find them. To be honest I didn't have much to start with (only an occasional rattle and holding the door card didn't seem to affect it - hence I went for the door skin), it was more the sound quality that was issue for me.

Great video, Paul. Thanks for posting the info on removing the door card - I've been adventurous on other cars, but didn't want to risk breaking anything on the Jag.

Hopefully, I'll be able to hear Jaguny's results in Maine in Aug.

I've found the stock speaker to be not horrible with a good-quality source, but with FM or SiriusXM, they distort very easily. Hard to know how much of that is the speakers and how much is the amp/crossovers.

The centre speaker in the dash is a coaxial, tweeter plus midrange. The standard F-Type one is an Aluminium-dome tweeter on a 100mm paper/rubber cone. There's a few options to choose from here as replacements, but they will need a small section of plastic trimmed out to fit because the capacitors and chokes are in slightly different positions on the F-Type. Not a big deal to trim them away. You have choices of Kevlar cone with Aluminium tweeter (from the B&W system in the XJ) or Kevlar cone with Titanium being a 2017 model it's going to need a custom solution for the amp/sub, it's not possible to retrofit the factory Meridian Surround to this car without changing everything.
Cambo please post the part numbers for the center speaker options. I have updated the door speakers per your suggestions, had the audio module updated & the door cards dyna matted. I would like to finnish off with the center speaker. Thank you for all your input on this thread.

Cambo did it again.
I now have the 770W system with DAB.
Well worth the upgrade if you can find someone so skilled.

While there Cambo also enabled video/maps on the go and the speed camera locations.
Also the Dynamic-I, reverse dip mirrors and disabled the auto stop-start rubbish.

Paul, is this a 100 mm coaxial? I was inadvertently shipped a Kevlar 100 mm coaxial, part no. C2d2079. This is from earlier XJ speaker. It looks substantial. Wondering if this would be a replacement upgrade for the existing f type coaxial?

C2Z22817 as seen in Paul's pic is the original speaker from the 770W system.

Potential upgrades are;

C2D2079, this is with yellow Kevlar cone and aluminium tweeter, although some of them have the tweeter coated black for some reason, anodised? from the B&W system in the 2010-2012 XJ and the 2012 XF

C2D24865, this is with pink/red Kevlar cone and titanium tweeter, this is from the Meridian Signature in the 2013-onward XJ.

In both cases you will need to trim away some plastic from the mounting hole in the F-Type dash, because the location of the ferrite choke and capacitor on the back side of the speaker is in a different location to the original Meridian one.

This is what slojotaa's guy was going to do. (has done?) You can see there are some moulded recess' in the mounting hole in Paul's pic, that is to clear the choke and capacitor, so some cutting is needed, but everything else is the same, they just plug in.

Thanks Cambo, I may keep the c2d2079 then. I will post a photo later today (for anyone interested).

Done last week, and aside from the plastic piece "cut out" as expected, it was a plug and play. The difference is awesome. One small issue, the front speaker, door speakers are now so good that it accentuates the "inferiority" of the rear speakers. Not sure if I ma going for this as the amount of work is too much, and not sure it is worth it.
