Keep dreaming, and keep your fingers crossed. And BTW, you've given me a good reason above to not attend local car meets.

You are so wrong, just based on the tune Jaguar CANNOT refuse warranty, only if they can proof it caused the damage, Jaguar warranty is one thing but there are laws that trump their warranty.

But is it really worth the likely court battle and getting a lawyer involved?

I agree with you, Stohlen. Like I said before, it's likely an uphill battle.

What Schwabe is talking about is the Magnusson Moss act. He's correct that Jaguar has to prove that the related modifications contributed to the failure in order to be able to deny warranty coverage ... a manufacturer can't say you modified the suspension and deny warranty coverage when the engine fails. However, it's not a stretch for a manufacturer to deny warranty of an engine failure when it comes to engine related mods or tuning.

The car was set up with x parameters from the factory... the car was running under y parameters at the time of failure causing xyz part to fail. If the car had been running by OEM factory spec this failure would not have happened.

Manufacturers/Dealers may extend good will and fix things anyway. I had this happen to a friend who with a turbo 350z and the motor blew a few thousand miles after the turbo install. A mod friendly dealer on your side will always help.

I've tuned many cars in the past and it was a given that the factory warranty was out the window if something were to break ... you have to pay to play as they say.

Its a good debate for us current owners but lets keep it objective and not personal. We are all adults here.

1. Upgrade to an SVR for 620HP, lowered and with carbon fibre wing. Lets say you get $80-$90k for your used F-Type, The SVR is going to be what, $130-140k? so that that's a new hit of $50k. (Second hand Ferrari 458's and others will be at that price in 1 year considering the new 488).

2. Bob's tuning (more like Hennesey or another ((whom will provide their own warranty))) you get arguably the same result for $4-5k (including lowering and tires). Ok, you void your warranty for the ECU remap but many, like me will be close to the end of our warranty by the time it comes out.

So the SVR is going to have to do something special for me to part with $45 or more. Like a V12 or something. In fact once it comes out I wonder if dealerships will offer a warranted tune of the V8. My dealership (BMCD) were very keen to do the lowering and some other mods for me and came down to a very competitive price.

In line with the XKR-S GT, I'm guessing very modest power increase, if any. It'll be about body work, suspension, brakes, etc.

I seriously doubt the AJ133S in it's current form could leave the factory with >600HP, so i'm hoping that means an updated engine. Fingers crossed!

I'm wondering how they will extract that extra power.

Hmmm...

Power is top speed. Torque is how quickly you get there.

Traction is unlikely to be an issue if all they've done is up the top speed.

More than likely nothing more than a tune. The V6 and V8 are essentially the same engine design. The 380HP version of the V6 is already making 126.7HP per liter, and a 600HP version of the V8 would only be making 120HP per liter.

Tech people on this forum have been saying fairly routinely that the V8 had room to grow, but the V6 was probably close to maxed out.

BMW was able to wring 1500 horses out of a 1.5 litre inline 4 engine adapted from a BMW2002 block back in the early '80s for Formula 1 racing. I'm certain with just a bit more boost and some tuning, that Jag can easily get another 50 horses and 30-40 lb-ft (low end acceleration) out of the 5.0, much like Eurocharged has already accomplished.

With the current 5.0 V8 people are seeing up to 625 hp / 560 torque (@ 93 octane) with nothing but a tune and a pulley upgrade. In theory the car should be able to do a bit more with other upgrades. I'll probably look into that in a few years once my powertrain warranty is down to 2 years or less.

Corrected.

Traction is a problem with the V8 RWD units, so it makes sense that they use the AWD system. RWD plus another 50 horsepower would have been stupid.
