Default Higher Mileage 2015 F-Type Pre-Purchase Inspection?

First-time sports car buyer here, kicking things off with an F-Type! I'm super excited about this purchase and can’t wait to be part of this amazing community!

I'm looking at a 2015 Jaguar F-Type S with 77k miles, priced at $18k. It seems like a fantastic deal—dealer-maintained throughout its life, in great condition, and recently had a multi-point inspection during an oil change at a Jaguar dealership. According to the current owner, the only issues flagged were a battery that will need replacing soon and front brakes that should be replaced within the next 10k miles.

How valuable is it to get a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) from a dealership if they just performed their own multi-point inspection last month? Also, are there specific things I should look for? I’m aware the cooling pipes haven’t been replaced and the rear diff oil is likely due, so I’m planning to tackle those after the 1,600-mile drive back (road trip!).

Default do your research!

Congrats on finding the F! and you want an inspection from someone other than the dealer. Does the car have a CarFAx? you can buy one if you have the VIN.

Given the car's age and mileage, have an independent garage check it out. See what codes it may be throwing. This is an "early" F and Jaguar was still sorting out some of its issues... the seamed plastic cooling pipes which you know about, the center vent that may grind going up and down. Most of these issues were caught and corrected under warranty.

Here's a link to just one of MANY threads on the original seamed pipes: (there are also MANY YouTube videos on DIY F type repairs)

The Jaguar replacements are a solid pipe and there are now metal/aluminum sets

There are also issues with microcracking in the headlights, (new ones are like $6000 apiece ... the fancy rotating ones)

rusting of cross braces underneath

Take the engine cover off and see if there is any corrosion on the fuel injectors or adjacent areas. Be aware that this is a Direct Injection engine and it needs a special cleaning process . Just putting a can of upper engine cleaner in the gas is not the same. If the car has ceramic brakes that is Major Money

A big plus is that armed with a MityVac, you can do you own oil changes for WAY less money than dealer charges... clean job, easy to do from ABOVE!

The other good news is that you are at the right place. I can't say enough about the spectacular knowledge base that is here... someone has had the same issue and in most cases, figured it out, fixed it, replaced it, rebuilt it.

I also like FCPEuro for oils and fluids and misc parts.

Best wishes and let us know how it turns out!
