Default Injector Swap

Hey guys, I'm going to be swapping out injectors in two cylinders, just wondering how difficult this will be to do myself? Looked on YouTube and didn't see any DIY vids. Any special tools needed?

Also, Jag wants $378 per injector, anyone have a cheaper option?

If you are skilled at auto repairs, you should be able to do it, but it is not simple or easy. The only tool you will need is the removal tool, which is a slide hammer type of tool that attaches to the top of the injector and yanks it out. Also, this is a GDI system, and the fuel rail/injection system is under extremely high pressure, so you need to relive that before opening it up...Make sure you do it correctly or it could cause damage or injury.

Also, there are a number of cases where the injectors become stuck/fused to the block, and in some cases, dealers have had trouble getting them out. Just FYI.

Again, it can be done, but you should be careful, follow proper procedures, and use the proper tool(s).

I've read where soaking the injectors with penetrating oil prior to an attempted removal will decrease the possibility of the tips breaking.

Here is a thread with how to do it. Also lists cheaper source of injectors.

Having done this recently, here’s some extra tips that helped me.

- You need the special slide hammer to remove the injectors. The cheap gold colored ones on Amazon weren’t able to seal against the injector head, I purchased a second JLR injector remover that was gold with black clamps. Worked perfectly.
- If your injector is stuck, swap the hammer of the tool with something heavier. I used a 10lb exercise plate on my slide hammer and they came out with just a couple of pulls. Prior to this I had soaked the injectors in PB blaster multiple times over 2-3 days and had no luck. The extra weight from the plate worked right away.

Also while you’re in there it’s not a bad idea to replace plugs and any coil packs that may be associated with misfiring cylinders.

Good luck! This is definitely worth doing yourself to save $$$. I was able to get all 8 injectors from FCP Euro for ~$800.

One more thought. If your car suffers from a coolant leak that seeps into the injectors, clean it ASAP! My injectors were coated in old dried coolant that hardened and basically glued them in place.

This has been extremely helpful, thanks guys. One last question though... I'm seeing Bosch 62120 injectors in that thread, but I'm pulling up Bosch 62820 injectors through different parts websites. Anyone know the correct injector model for a 2014 S Model?

The link I posted above is from a person with a V8S from his profile. So the injector part number quoted there is for a V8. From my research the part number you list is correct for the V6.
