Lift gate not automatic closing ??
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help with an issue I’m having with my F-type - The rear lift gate will open with FOB and interior button, but does not power close - I hear a beeping sound, but can only close manually.,
Thank you !

The system thinks the key fob is inside. Is there someone using the spare key fob (maybe it's in your wife's handbag or in coat pocket) left inside the car?

Whenever I disconnect my battery, the lift gate will not shut with the lid button until I manually close it. Then it works normally. Does the lid shut using the dash button? Try the old battery disconnect reboot method. Quirky little cars.
Many members here, after experiencing battery/electrical problems (many and various), have "rebooted" the system by disconnecting then reconnecting the battery, and it works to solve the problem most times.
The easiest way to disconnect the battery is to disconnect the earth/ground lead which runs from the negative terminal of the battery from where it is bolted down at the other end of the cable to the floor of the trunk/boot. It is a think black cable, easy to spot, and where it bolts down is also easy to trace and spot. From memory it is held on by a 13 mm nut, remove that nut, lift the cable off the bolt and keep it away from touching any metal part for some 30 seconds or so, then reconnect and bolt back down again.
This might just reset/fix the hatch close module/button/switch/motor/whatever but then again it might not but worth a try and it only takes a minute or two.
You will lose the Trip 1 and Trip 2 readings (they will reset to zero) and the one-touch window up/down but no biggie losing the Trip readings and it's a simple procedure to reset the window one-touch. Nothing else will be lost or need resetting other than maybe the time/clock which is also easy to reset.
Forgot to add, as davidmaria1 says disconnecting the battery will always disable the hatch power close the first time, you have to manually pull it down the first time after a disconnect then it should work as normal after that.

As someone else mentioned, might need to check the battery. On our Evoque the car started and everything seemed to work fine, but lift-gate would open but not close with engine off.... Ended up being a marginal battery.... Have not had the problem on our F Type... This might be at least worth checking... You might also try opening and closing with the engine running to see if that makes a difference... By the way, the Evoque works differently and doesn't close with fob or dash button by design, but it would not close, with engine off, with the button on the lift gate either.... :-)

Completely unscientific, but is the car running when you try it? The running voltage will (?) be higher then. Make sure both keys are linked to the car, holding the fob near the left lower dash, the sequence is here on the site somewhere.
What happens if you do? I think this is what happened to my car, and now I can't get it to close electronically. Same issue as so many others...
I've tried everything I have read, and no dice.

FWIW, I had a similar problem. The tailgate would power close partway and stop. I had to gently push it down by hand. Occasionally, it would not power open all the way.
My local JLR dealer did their best to diagnose step-by-step, pulling codes and doing pinpoint tests, but still they ended up replacing a lot of parts. Main battery, left actuator, right actuator, motor-closing-tailgate-upper, and the tailgate module. It operates fine, now. Good thing the car is under warranty as this all would have cost me big bucks.
I’d be happy enough with a manual lift gate.

This is what happens to me too...sometimes I have to open and close it a few times. For me, the battery is often low charge or I disconnected it on purpose for this to happen.
I just replaced my AGM battery with an Antigravity battery. I had thought I had disconnected a cable by accident, as the rear hatch would not move by itself. I did read about pushing the button to reset it, but that didn't work. I just closed it and took out the back cover just in case I had to get into the trunk area and pull the lever manually. I shut the rear hatch and then pushed the button to open.. Worked like a charm.. Phew. It just happens when you reset the battery. Of course, when I put my antigravity charger in to the hidden trunk area then tried to close the hatch and got a beep beep and the hatch wouldn't lock. Well, luckily the car is smart, as I had dropped my keys in there as well. That's how my day has been.. full of mishaps, luckily no damage.

The manual open / close of the rear trunk after battery change is the same as the auto window up/ down reset. I think it has to reset the limits for open and close so it takes a manual cycle to know where it is first.
