My daughter is buying one of these
A BMW M2 Competition (gasp...)

Typical BMW non-styling but a pretty cool car for $65K AND the manual transmission is lighter, faster and stops better than the automatic.

They certainly are. You'll get to ridiculous speeds without even realizing it. Or feeling it...
(I'm speaking only of the m4, mind you. Admittedly I'd like to try an m2.)

The M2 actually looks pretty mean in a very feminine kind of way. I'd be pretty chuffed if my daughter bought a manual RWD, especially one which could probably spank my car around the track.

The E46 was the best looking of the 4,3,2,1 series. The designs have been getting progressively worse ever since.
unhingd,
I would tend to agree with you but with the 2 series BMW resorted to a styling technique that just drives me nuts. They put those artificial creases in the door stampings, in this case, a curved crease that starts behind the door and arches up to the top of the wheel well. I also detest the "eyebrow" or drooping "eyelids" that cover the air intakes on the front of the car, just more clutter.

I owned a E46 M3 for about 9 years. It was a great car, once I got past some initial issues. The first two years of ownership, it spent more time in the shop than it did on the road. After that, it was rock solid and a blast to drive. I've been in many M2's over the years at the track, some stock and some Dinan modified. They are an awesome "drive to the track and drive home" car.
The interior is straight out of 1995.
For pure driving fun with that manual though .... plus cops wouldn't notice you, well no one would notice you.
I've seen them go new for under $55k so $65k is a little high. This one on Ebay won't reach $65k. A Maserati dealer would be motivated to see it off the lot.

I'd argue that the E90 M3 is the best looking of them all. I had an E46 M3, and do love the classic BMW lines of the car.
