Default New Owner...Initial thoughts & Q's

Recently picked up a 2023 P450 coupe and could you use some insight
  • The OEM Pirellis are too loud for my taste. Looking at the Conti DWS06's...can anyone attest to whether they are quieter than the Pzero's? It's an A to B car and I drive almost predominately on the tollroad. Located in the South, so will have all four seasons w/occasional snow/ice
  • Exhaust note is muted compared to my previous F type. Any recommendations for easy fixes that will not void my warranty? I like the Velocity 200 cats but don't like the idea of having to do a tune or having to replace the entire exhaust.
  • I feel like my headlights are not perfectly aligned. I read that sometimes the driver side is aimed lower than the passenger side to not blind oncoming traffic. Is this true with the newer models? Greatly appreciate if someone could post a pic of their headlights against a wall for reference so I can adjust mine.
Other than that, car runs, feels, and sounds great...

Thanks to all for your insights,

Run-flat nature of P-Zeros makes them loud…I love my Michelin PS4S tires.

I think VAP can edit the tune to revert back to old exhaust note…Jag muted it because it was burning through cats.

Can’t speak to headlights but have never noticed a different angle.

Thanks to all for your insights,
1. The Conti DWS06+ (make sure they are the + model) are outstanding high performance all-seasons. I had them on my '18 FWD F-Type and once my Pirellis wear out on my '23 I will be switching over. I think they are definitely quieter.

2. You can pull Fuse 15 under the hood to have the exhaust open all the time. Makes a dramatic difference in sound, especially on the '22+ facelift cars with the GPF in the cats. However, some claim there *could* be a negative side effect to doing so. You can read about the issue and a solution on this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...emoval-290806/ I would say you can pull Fuse 15 for a couple drives with no worry about harm (I drove for over a year with it pulled with no issue) and see what you think. If you like it, then you can consider the solutions proposed in that thread.

3. Headlight adjustments are easy. The facelift cars do have the smart headlamps that cut the beam off drastically to the oncoming traffic side of the car, but they should still be the same height. See my post at the end of this thread for headlight adjustment on the facelift cars https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...lights-208905/.

Thanks to all for your insights,
Congrats on the F-type.

Don’t have anything for the headlights.

The tires. I don’t find them all that loud, but I’m looking forward to replacing them mainly because I’ve heard that the ride in sport suspension is less harsh with the Michelins, and some other options. I look forward to that, but I certainly will go through the stock tires first.

EXHAUST THOUGHTS:

I have installed an aftermarket exhaust valve controller from a company called ASR. It will allow you to keep the valves fully open, which makes a big difference (i.e.: Instead of the stock action of them staying closed until you get above 3500 rpm). This makes a huge difference, and you can easily go back to stock behaviour with the push of a button. It comes with a keychain remote, but you can program it to a homelink garage door opener button(s) for a nice integrated feel. The install is not invasive at all. If you needed/wanted to uninstall it you could easily do so, and nobody would ever know it was installed. The car doesn’t even know it’s there (no codes will be thrown etc)…It’s completely seamless…Very polished product as far as I’m concerned. Others on the forum have installed this product with great success.

Another big advantage of this ASR product is that it gives you the option to cold start the car with the exhaust valves completely closed the whole time. This is not possible in stock form. This could be of value to you if you have neighbour concerns, early starts etc…It can deliver the quietest start possible…

Here is an install guide if that might interest you ->

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...-guide-291495/

Before using this ASR product I was using a form of pulling fuse 15 to keep the valves open all the time when wanting them open, but some information has come out that this is not a good thing to be doing with these newer F-types that are equipped with a GPF filter in the exhaust system. The ASR option achieves the same thing, but in a safe way. Here is a thread talking in some detail about the issues around pulling fuse 15….Lots of info there ->

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...emoval-290806/

With the ASR things sound pretty good. Much better than stock. I’m soon bumping things up a bit more by replacing the back box with an aftermarket axel-back solution from VelocityAP. It apparently really opens things up. Between that and the ASR it will be pretty loud from what I gather. I didn’t want to get into tunes and remapping. Didn’t want to mess with my warranty.

Hope this helps. Welcome aboard,

Cheers

I run Conti's on all my cars, except my muscle cars and they are quieter and they seem to last longer than Michelin's, but I believe the Michelin's are a little stickier in the summer, but a little looser in the winter.

I went from P Zero to Michelin and made a big difference. Recently went to Conti Extreme Contact Sport 02, even better. It's a newer tire! Don't need DWS in Sin City!

Appreciate the replies. Also looking at this exhaust switch from 11 Mode, similar to the ASR product, and has been spoken of in other forums

https://11mode.com/products/jaguar-f...BHFEux3_K4GNKT

The current OEMs are non-run flats but they are loud, and perhaps amplified by the shape of the interior cabin. Leaning towards the DWS06+'s but not loving the tread pattern. Would hate to put them on but only to find out they are just as loud

If anyone gets bored and sends a pic of their low- beam headlights, I will happily buy you a cup of coffee (e-gift card). Apparently car needs to be 20-25 ft away from the wall and on a flat surface.

I just had Falken Azenis FX460's all-seasons put on my '23 R. I initially wanted Continentals, but they were not available. Have not driven to much at highway speeds yet to really notice a difference to my original P-Zeros
They don't look too bad on the car.

Default +1 on the Continental DWS

I live in Wisconsin so no need for 'summer only' tires, which were on the MY2017 when I bought it in 2020. The service records indicate that the car was on its second set of tires and those were close to being done. After reading through the DWS comments on this forum, I put them on. 5 years later, I replaced those with the updated DWS (Dry/Wet/Snow). Quiet and really good in all weather conditions. Not too much driving in snow, but not too concerned if I have to. I don't track the car, if I did that would be another thought process.
I did have them 'road force balanced'... which for a car like this, is probably a good idea. I got my Contis through the dealer, this link is just for the information.

If you buy Contis, be sure to register them.

I've had Conti DWS+ on my last 3 performance cars, present one included. These are excellent all season tires that perform well (but not performance tires so be careful).

I'd rather have these tires on a performance car that I drive as a GT over performance tires on a car I never intend to track.

Often, tire noise can be caused by the tread blocks 'feathering' due to improper alignment.
If you rub the tread both forward & backward with your hand, does it feel rougher in one direction? THEN you need an alignment. Be sure to mention your issue to the alignment shop, the good ones will be knowledgeable enough to set the suspension to factory settings that will minimize the issue in the future.
The P-Zeros don't last that long anyway....

We are running Nitto Motivo UHP all weathers and they have already lasted more miles than the Pirellis... and have plenty of tread depth left! Yes, our F needed to be aligned.

++++++++++

Either turn the radio up, or get the exhaust valve mods you mentioned.
