Default No manual on the 2.0-liter turbo?

I was curious when I saw this on the HP... Because in all honesty? I'm not opposed to a sports car with a small, high-strung motor. And the reviewer actually says it lends the car a classic sports car feel. But the lack of a stick would be a total deal breaker for me. Because while 300hp is enough for the street, I'd want to be able to wring every pony out of this little mill. What do you think about the 2.0-liter turbo?

In a manual it would probably be a half second plus slower to 100kph than the much quicker shifting ZF. While a lot of enthusiasts (me included) would be happy with the trade off, it would probably look average in stats having its time over 6 seconds.

But it is a real shame, I think.

+1. Lighter front end and overall lighter, more nimble, smaller 300hp engine (especially if it's higher revving than it's cousins), and a manual transmission could be the recipe for a nice little sports car. But without the MT...meh!

I am one who will sacrifice that fraction of a second on 0-60 times...I'm about the driving experience and paddles are NOT a driving experience. Three pedals or I walk on past...

I actually disagree. This isn't high-revving engine and has power band very close to the red line. Slapping MT on this dog would mean that 9 out of 10 drivers won't ever see the power band/max output.

Even if JLR actually invested into making performance version of this engine, bump RPMs to 9000.... this would still leave it attached to a very heavy F-type chassis.

F-type will never be S2000. Too heavy to deliver that kind of experience.

I'd really like to drive one of these next to its more powerful sisters... I wonder if they're even going to bring it to the US?

You are no doubt correct. My contemplation revolved around unlikely criteria: 1) An MT on the car, 2) A high revving 4 banger (~8000RPM) and 3) a much lighter car.

I don't get it, isn't it available with a manual?

No. They made the mistake once before of developing the MT for the V6. Not enough were sold (far fewer than expected) to cover the investment. They won't make the same mistake on the 4-banger. I had one Jag USA rep once quip to me that the MT Jag was perhaps one of the most expensive cars ever to build. An exaggeration for sure, but that's the way they feel. It is likely that the F-Type MT may be the last of its kind in the luxury car market. I hope I am proven wrong.

I got confused because there are several new F-TYPE 2.0s on Cars.com erroneously listed as manuals!

I do think it's a travesty. Of all the variants, this one should have a manual.

Alfa, Maserati and Ferrari have stated manual transmissions are dead - as far as they are concerned:

”While he was at it, Fedeli also took the opportunity to reiterate that in the future no high-performance Alfa Romeos, Maseratis or Ferraris will be made available with three pedals because no one wants them anymore.”

Taken from here:
https://www.google.com/amp/www.autog...-year.html/amp

Going to watch with interest what they do with this revamp, a new engine sounds interesting. If they can add 6 cylinder I would be seriously interested.

The X152 2.0 litre is targeted at younger buyers as a way to get them to look at Jaguar other than as a car for older people.

Many younger drivers do not know how to drive a car with a manual gearbox, especially when the automatic allows them to multi-task whilst driving.

Most of the younger generation grew up playing Gran Tourismo on the PlayStation and expect real life cars to have auto-manual or paddle shifting.

Plus when I was growing up automatics were horrible things. With the advent of dual clutches and the ZF8 it kind of makes manual obsolete for the majority of people - with the exception of die hards.

Well...it appears he's a bold faced liar.

Firstly no one should be giving any discrediting comments about the 2.0 unless you have driven one, a lot of comments come from reading reviews and watching videos, its when you're behind the wheel , then you can talk,
secondly i'm not bothered about a manual, auto is great for cruising , i use the paddles for any other driving style i want.
