Default No Paper title

When I bought my F-Type (in Fla)I never received a paper title, even though I have it paid in full(Sales receipt shows "Paid"). Salesman said titles are not electronic. If I were to sell the car, how do I transfer the title if I do not have one?

Florida is using electronic titles, but you can request a paper one.

You may not need a paper title if you trade your car to a Florida dealer. However, you'll definitely need one if you sell privately or out-of-state.

You can order a paper title online at www.GoRenew.com, or visit your local tax collector office and pay a $2.50 fee and have it mailed to you. Most tax collectors also offer same-day title printing for a fee of $10.

With electronic title, what do you show cops when they pull you over and ask "license and registration" ?

My title never leaves my house.
I carry the registration in the car and my license in my wallet.
Never leave your title document in the vehicle.
It's a bit like leaving your bank account and credit card in the glove box!!

License and registration is different from title. Title is simply an ownership document. The former is what the government uses to get money and allow you to operate on the public roads.

In Illinois you show your drivers license and a plate registration card, not a title.

Won't speak for other States, but in Texas, we don't have to carry title with us. They will run the tags to verify they are current and to get name of registrant and can even confirm insurance through the same network...I've had times where I just said it was on e-sure if I didn't want to dig through the glove compartment.

In the US, not a single state requires you to have the title in your possession. As others have stated, having it in the car is probably a risky move since in most US states possession of the car AND the title is enough to prove ownership. So if someone steals your car with your title in it, it's going to be an uphill battle to get it back.

I've heard of a story from a motorcycle forum where a guy had his bike lifted from the parking lot into a van, with the title sitting in the rear underseat storage. The thief could basically sign the title over to himself and there's no way to prove it was actually stolen. So don't keep the title in any vehicle, lol..
