A beautiful video that captures the essence…the Jaguar F-Type has “soul” as opposed to being simply an excellent machine. Every Jaguar seems to exhibit this undefinable characteristic.

And it's only a base model!

Hit the nail firmly on the head there. It's similar to why Alfa's are so beloved - they are flawed in many ways, but they are cars that make you fall in love with them, look past the faults and cherish what you have.

A customer of mine (before I retired) put it perfectly, as the owner of an Aston V8 Vantage with her hubby owning a 911 Turbo. Her hubby's 911 was a better car in every measureable metric - it drove better, it used less fuel, it was vastly cheaper to service and insure, and it was more reliable, but she would make a point of leaving the house 5 minutes early every day just to open the garage and stare at her Aston before she left. That's what a car with a soul does. The 911 is a fantastic car (I've wanted one since I was 6 years old) but for her hubby it was just that, a car, a tool to do a job.

My friend has a 2009 V8 Vantage. Has had it for 10 years. Been super reliable, and what absolutely beautiful car it is. They are incredible. I’d have it over a 911 of any stripe any day of the week. His car inspired my F-type purchase for sure…You know, the poor man’s Aston ;-o

The Jaguar F Type is an AMAZING value for what it is. I bought mine used with 11k on it and its the R model with still under 30,000 miles. Considering what the KBB is for my Jaguar, I simply wouldn't sell it and didn't have any intention. But I was shocked as I picked up a used Porsche Cayman S and pulled values on each then realized the value of my much newer F Type R is dropping much closer to the used Porsche I bought reinforces that the Jaguar is a steal for the money. I hope they still stay as rare as they are in my area as one of my huge draws to the car is not only looks and performance but yet I rarely see one on the road.

I missed the part about the guy being a Porsche owner.... and honestly, all I heard the guy say was that he understood why his dad chose his car over a 911.

Love my F-Type, but I'm sure there's at least one variant of the 911 that I would choose over it. Would definitely be a targa build.

To me Jaguar is my favorite brand when it comes to cars, Ive had several models over 15 years and enjoyed each one but the F-Type is the best model and my most favorite one to drive so exciting. I have driven other brands such as BMW, Maserati, Porsche but they didnt do anything for me. Only other car brand that I like is Aston Martin which I have driven DB9 and Vantage before. But to me the Jag is the best. I will never buy a Porsche 911 or 718 in my area there's too many heck theres too many Lambos, and Ferraris I dont want those either even if I had the money to buy them I wouldnt. Besides the F-Type gives me the feeling other car brands do not provide its hard to explain it but it has "Soul". Yes the 911 has attributes that car enthusiast drool over but thats all it has. I like being able to go out in my F-Type and sticking out and people are turning heads wondering. And might I add the value you get for the money on the used car market makes the F-Type the best bang for the dollar. You can literally go out and get a 14-16 F-Type V6S or V8S under 30k with low miles. Mystique and uniqueness is what matters and that's what the F-Type gives me that the Porsche 911 cannot.

Well at least I know we are on an F type forum. TxDriver23 has it right.
I have owned a few Porsches, put miles on them and time in them, not just a test drive. I have owned my F type now going on four years, I am here to tell you, that in my opinion, the 911 is a far better car than the F type in every way.
So you may ask, why do I own an F type? The answer is simple, I wanted something different. Would I buy another one? NO

The flat 6 sounds better then the supercharged v8? I got a bridge to sell you...

I have owned a few Porsche's and now own another one with my F Type R. Although I love my F Type, I love the new to me Porsche just as much (maybe more) and don't know if I would ever buy another Jaguar either. I love the car but the depreciation this car is taking if I ever wanted to sell is more than I care to absorb. They are unique, they are amazing to drive but they plummet in value. I hope they rebound with the big E push and have no intention of selling mine but hopefully when it comes time-the value comes up a bit. I will say all my Porsche's sounded horrid in comparison. I put a Klein on my TT 911 and that sounded decent but still not compared to the R.

I bought my 2023 R couple months ago with only 2700 mi on it. The original owner took a $46K hit selling it. Sticker $126K and I got it for $80k.

Now after 2 months I've probably takin a $10K hit !!! But I plan to keep the car till I'm worm food (I'm 76), so my kids will take the hit not me.

In my opinion the flat six at full song sounds gloris. Is it better than my F type R ? I would say different is more correct. Some of the people on here prefer the V6 to the V8, saying that it is more exotic sounding than the V8. It is a matter of preference.
Now back to that imaginary bridge you have for sale

Agree! I have a 2015 F-Type R, modified with pulleys, intake, and high flow cats. It produces beastly noises. But... have you guys actually sat in a GT3 at full tilt? The thing sounds ridiculously good. And you can get the 'regular' flat 6's to sound pretty close to the same with an aftermarket exhaust.

And this whole 'better' than a Porsche 911 thing, is so subjective. The F-Type is a grand touring car that acts a bit like a sports car. The 911 (modern) is a sports car that acts a bit like a grand touring car. Once you start talking about early water cooled cars like 996's and 997's, they are different cars altogether. And don't get me started on the air cooled cars - you want a car with uhhh .... "soul".. those cars certainly have it.

I really don't mean to be a wet blanket here, I think the F-type is really amazing.... but the series of "crap on other cars" threads that have been popping up here lately make no sense other than folks with confirmation bias trying to justify their decision as the best one in the world, and their car is better than everyone else's. Fine, go ahead and believe that, but it ain't necessarily true! Why don't we all work on a mutual appreciation for other marques and appreciate that we're not all relegated to boring utilitarian vehicles (we may be someday, if we're driving at all).

You said 'better in every way'. I can only go by what you say!

And imo, the V6 sounds better then the flat six.

I've had the pleasure of being behind a current gen Turbo S and GT3RS in launch mode, sounds bonkers! But outside of that, the R has it everyday of the week and twice on sunday. So far a Ferrari 458 (modified) is the only thing that dominates the R sound wise...and my R is stock..how this was legal to sell i'll never know. Anywho, i'm good with the Rari because it at least has the correct number of cylinders

Oh lordy, for sure to each their own, but when I listen to this...

The F-Type V6 is definitely epic, but this is my favorite V6 to-date (again YMMV):

Behind the GT3RS, sadly my co pilot missed the initial launch mode tones.

Okay so I found the POV from a C63S owner who was a few cars behind me. GT3 i believe in front of him.

But about 7 seconds in you hear the Ferarri 458 take off and then 2 seconds later GT3RS launch mode.
