Default Replacing Steel Brakes for Carbon Ceramics on an F-Type R Possible?

Hello everyone,

I have a 2014 F-Type R with steel brakes and I’d like to retrofit carbon ceramics to it. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it an easy straight forward swap or anything that I need to watch out for? ChatGPT seems to suggest that the ECU may have to be tuned for the ABS and DSC? Also Brake Master Cylinder and Booster might need recalibration or replacement for the different system pressure requirements?

Ideally I would really like to keep the wheels I currently have (mine are like these: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2..._3.0_Front.jpg ), but I’ve never seen any F-Type that has carbon ceramics with these wheels so I’m wondering if there would be any issues with caliper clearance fitting them?

And for those who have carbon ceramics already, do you like them? Any major issues or anything to watch out for?

Any guidance welcome!

Many Thanks!

The major issue is cost. Have you priced the carbon ceramic brakes? A set of front pads and rotors costs north of $10K last I saw.

What are your goals? Lighter brake assembly? Better thermal capacity? Track driving? Show?

Purely for the looks. So long as they don't have any negative affect on general driving.

They’re not great for the street. Anyone I’ve known that have had them swore never again.

There's frequently second hand CC up for sale on ebay here in the UK for approx £2.5 front and similar for the rear (so £5k total) which are in good condition. Sometimes off F-Type R's and sometimes SVR's. Presumably those are the same.

I know someone will inevitable suggest just selling my current car and buying another similar car with CC's alredy installed but I don't want to do that. I know my car, I've owned it for a long time and I've looked after it well. I don't want to take any risk in trading cars.

Interesting! Why is that, out of curiosity? Long time to warm up?

DId you look at the thread I suggested in the PB brake thread?
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...trofit-154240/
It has all the information for the questions you are asking including resources and part numbers.

@Bearcat just to throw this out there as another option, the VelocityAP lightweight rotors look better compared to stock, and I believe have similar weight savings, and much cheaper. Not the same look as CCBs of course, but maybe an upgrade without as much hassle/cost?

@Bearcat

If it's just for looks, paint the calipers yellow and install good pads, like the Porterfield R4-s.

I have a ‘17 FTR and installed VAP’s 2-piece rotors. They save a lot of weight, throw off little brake dust (using the Porterfield pads), and have incredible stopping power! Perfect for the 660bhp I’m running. Cherry on top: they look great and are much cheaper than ceramics!
