Roof Issues
Tried searching on the forum but couldn't find anything. I have a 2014 base and, for the second time, my roof has gotten stuck once closed.
Every time I try to open it, the windows lower slightly (about an inch) and then don't move. No message on the dash, nothing. Even if I put the windows down fully and press the roof motor button, nothing happens.
The first time it stopped, it was completely random. I drove for about 30 mins and put the roof up. When I came back 10 mins later, it wouldn't budge with the same symptoms described earlier. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it, saying the roof sensor needed to be recalibrated.
However, this time I took 3 hours to manually wash and clean the car, using a high intensity water jet and black shampoo on the roof. I even lowered the roof after I'd completely washed it to clean the inside, and then raised it again once I'd finished. After a couple of hours, I came to take my shiney beauty for a drive but, to my horror, the roof stopped working again.
Roughly 2 and a half months have elapsed between the two occurrences. I spoke to a friend of mine who used to work as a service advisor at the dealer and he mentioned that disconnecting and reconnecting the battery might reset the calibration (like it does on the windows).
Has anyone else faced this issue? Does anyone know if disconnecting and reconnecting the battery will solve the issue?
Thanks in advance guys!

Given the complexity of the roof mechanism and the way it ties into the cars' electronics, I would just take it back to the dealer as using the advise your friend gave you may only just be a bandaid. Clearly theres another issue if its happening again.
My '08 TT did exactly this and it turned out to be a contact on the little flap doors. Turned out to be a problem that was a service notice. Definetly a dealer issue!

If you disconnect the battery and reconnect to "clear" the computer , will it cause other issues ?
On the f type convertible roof stopping mid motion seem to be common issues which Jaguar has yet to answer or fix other than to blame the battery .That seems a pretty lame answer on a car that is expected to compete with the Germans.

And anyone who doubts this might be interested in buying a CTEK charging unit from their local Audi, Mercedes or BMW dealer, complete with the logos of those brands instead of the CTEK logo. If the Bugatti or Maserati dealership is closer they can also buy the CTEK unit there...or at the local Bentley dealership.
Definitely sounds like water ingress into the motors that lift the roof. I guess you washing the car could also be just coincidence. Search for the thread about blocked roof drains and for most of those users it presents as a roof failure. As I don’t have a convertible I can’t tell you how to clean the roof drains but it is apparently very difficult to find and then flush out.
No there is no way to prevent it. If the volume is large (as in washing or a deluge of rain) the drains can't handle it and it's like how the Titanic sunk. The water spills over into the electric motors.
There are 4 drain exit points that can be tested by pouring some water directly into the drains:

If you treat the fabric convertible roof with a water repellent, more of the water will 'roll off' the roof rather than soaking in to the fabric and into the drains.
I use generic Scotchguard but many here prefer to use more expen$ive auto-specific treatments, like Formula 303 convertible top cleaner and protectant.
Be sure to mask off the bodywork and glass to avoid overspray.
