Default seat insert upholstery options

Hello, I need to get my seat inserts reupholstered from the factory suedecloth and I'm trying to decide which material/style to use for the inserts.

I think I sat in a model with leather inserts and the leather seemed boring/low quality - fairly similar to the leather that was in my 2000 Honda Accord coupe. It was different than the material used for the outside trim but I'm not sure if that's leather or pleather. Do you agree that the quality of the leather inserts seems a bit under par?

I sat in a model with track seats and the style of leather used seemed high quality and consistent throughout the seats.

So I need to replace the suedecloth inserts and wanted to get your opinions on what kind of inserts I should get. I definitely want to go with black since my car is blacked out. One option is to get inserts that match the outside seat trim as closely as possible. Another option is to get perforated leather inserts which may provide better ventilation. I do seem to remember enjoying the perforated inserts on my old amg c55 but I'm not sure how well the perforated insert style would go with the overall jaguar style. Are there any other options I should consider? This will be a custom job so I have complete flexibility.

Why do you need to replace them?

Or is it that you 'need' to replace them?

Leather inserts are much easier to clean than suedecloth. Also, leather is less likely to absorb moisture and become smelly.

Didn't you custom order your car? Curious as to why you ordered the suedecloth, only to replace it...

So: make them replace the seats.

Trying to match is probably the least desirable option, very difficult. Perforated is a good choice and easy to find, but why not do something different like the diamond stitched leather inserts, or horizontally stitched and quilted inserts like on Ferrari seats. Lots of choices!

thanks tberg - perforated seems like a good choice. does perforated car leather tend to be 2 sided? ex - perforated layer on top with a solid layer on the bottom? seems like this would be needed to help prevent the perforation pattern from stretching too much and to protect the seat foam from moisture?

I guess I need to figure out what kind of stitching overlay I might want. I'm not a fan of diamond stitching - draws too much attention imo. but what are some good options for a more basic stitching overlay? can you post a pic of the horizontally stitched and quilted inserts you're describing?

jag_guy_2020,
Here is an example of a Ferrari seat that has a horizontal pattern that is stitched in.
Take a look and let me know what you think.

@tberg - here are 2 styles of stitching that look good to me.

#1:

#1 is the classic amg look which I like a lot. however, it looks a bit stark and is strongly associated with amg.

#2 is more stylish and understated imo. therefore, I think #2 would look better than #1 in a british car. so leaning towards #2 right now. what are your thoughts?

You post, a lot... about things no one would normally care to talk about on here... (Like a sun visor).

Yet, you dont post about your custom Ftype order being messed up?

Odd

You sure you own one?

I visited the upholstery guy today. I asked him if the perforated leather would expose the foam to direct moisture and he said yes. Therefore, I'm *not* going to get perforated leather. He said that he could match the leather of the surrounding trim exactly so I'm going to go with the exact match option.

LOL, 2020 is a different kind of cat

Did they really mess up your custom order? Did the dealer put in the wrong order or did the factory actually f-up?

FWIW, I like this interior. Apparently it's like aston martin:

not a fan of diamond stitching on car seats. reminds me of a car that might have been driven by marilyn monroe.

also too far from stock jaguar design. want to keep it simple. not much more complex than the 2 images I posted above.

Diamond stitched leather is an option on late model JAGUAR XKR's, so it is a "stock" Jaguar look. As for moisture getting in through the perforations, every Jaguar XK-XKR has it as does every Mercedes, BMW...Unless you're taking the hose inside the cabin, it's simply not an issue.
