The units with an SD card are a different software version (software is not the same as map data) so I don't see that working at all. I would hope that it would reject the attempt outright and refuse to load. If not, that is what we refer to in the business as "unsupported."

I think her only two options are to do nothing or pay for the 2020 update.

Default Really no better options for InControl Plus / USB

Yes, exactly, those are the two options... do nothing and live with an 8 year old database or pay up and deal with a 5 year old database.

I am posting this as a public service. My five years of free map updates ends today. I logged in wanting to get my final free update today. JLR had other ideas. Apparently I needed to to that yesterday. Today my only option is to buy an update for $119.

If your free map update subscription is about to expire get your last update the day before your expiration date. Luckily I did do a map update several days ago so my maps are fairly up-to-date. I did notice that they did post a new map version after I did my last update.

I just took my SVR in for it's annual maintenance and my dealer upgraded my GPS at no cost. It took 4 hours...

Default So, be sure to do update the day before expiration!

Oh, bummer. At least you got a recent update.

A good word to the wise to renew at least a day if not a couple of days before end date... I'm looking at my Remote subscription and making note to renew that before it gets too close to end date.

It's not like, for me, $119 is a lot of money, I'm just wary that it would work at all. Getting something for the $119 would be somewhat acceptable, but not getting anything due to tech issues and then having no recourse would really steam me.

But over time, wouldn't it pay to buy a CarPlay/Android Auto upgrade instead so that you could use those maps and traffic info, instead?

If I thought that upgrade would take car of everything, perhaps. Looking at this version. it says that it does it all except for Navigation, writeup clearly states 'install at your own risk' and the reviews do not inspire confidence. I'm not a big audiophile, and IMO dinking with the infotainment system while driving is not something I think is safe. I really wanted to be able to use the Route Planner on my PC then send it to the car. As it is now, I can still search my destination and feel fairly confident that the routing the current car system shows is accurate. I can always pull over and check the route on my phone. What would be a good solution is what we have in the 2021 Silverado that has Android Auto native, just plug in the phone and you can see it on the screen. As an aftermarket purchase, I'd rather put the money towards something I use more often and provides better ROI.

I'm in the same situation, this is a complete Jaguar nightmare. Bought my used 2017 F Type in November. Emailed back and forwards with Jag customer "service'. They had to remove the previous owner and I managed to get an Incontrol account and eventually I could enter my VIN but I now have to tell Jag incontrol I have the car!! Either I get Jag CS to press a button, then I have to go to the car and press the service button in the overhead until it stops flashing then go to my PC and wait for something to happen - good grief! I then found the same sort of thing on line where I could press the magic button myself, go to the car, press the service button and wait for the magic response, zero, nada, zilch. Disaster that only the brits could inflict on owners, such a dumb way to do something simple (I'm allowed to say that as a passport holder). Totally fed up as I stupidly bought a map update from Naviextras that is for SD update I need USB and to contact them I need to register an account except that feature doesn't work on their site and no way to contact them without an account. Google maps here I come!! Yup I'm angry and the shine is off my beautiful car!!

Default Still suspicious....

[QUOTE=lizzardo;2828535]The units with an SD card are a different software version (software is not the same as map data) so I don't see that working at all. I would hope that it would reject the attempt outright and refuse to load. If not, that is what we refer to in the business as "unsupported."

I'm going with what Lizzardo (who know his IT) says about the units... Yeah, download the SD version, save it to a USB, stick it in your car and THINK it's going to work, NOT.

Sorry to sound the cynic here, but until I read a post from a US owner, who has the same unit I do (USB port in the cubby MY2017 built late 2016) has purchased this and successfully installed it and can use the NAV, I will hold off. and here is a copy of info from my tech in early March, 2025....

"Good morning Valerie, I think I have cracked the case here. So this morning I have been trying to connect to the car with my smart phone and finding it is a dead end. Jaguar appears to have discontinued the 'Incontrol Apps' App so I do not believe that function of the vehicle will work anymore.

Logging into one of the accounts for the route planning and attempting to add a vehicle I have found that those instructions are for a Incontrol Touch Pro vehicle kinda similar to the white XE that I was showing you on Friday so we can not login to that due to the software being different.

Next I have been messing around here and going through their updating path where you click on the Jaguar then asks what vehicle and year and that is where it gets interesting. I believe that they have the wrong information on their site because when you do 2016 or 2017 Jaguar F-type it brings you to that screen that says login to your vehicle from the vehicle which is impossible because the Infotainment system in your vehicle does not have that feature. The info on the HERE website is wrong and directs you in the wrong area and gives the wrong info for the vehicle selected. So I entered it as a 2015 Jaguar F-type and it brings up a usb able to purchase right from their website with no vehicle info needed which I believe to be the correct path due to your vehicle not having the ability to have those other account features. As well as the infotainment system in 2015 is the same as your vehicle so they should work the same. Now here is the kicker.... They have stopped updating the maps in 2020.... even if you buy it and update it the maps are already 5 years old which is disappointing to say the least but I will attach the link for it and I downloaded the instructions and they appear to be what would be required to update your vehicle.

In conclusion, Jag is wrong. HERE is wrong. I believe that they have too many overlapping years for tech and they don't know what is in what cars. I hope this info helps and if you buy the maps and they don't work I will be more than happy to reimburse you for it since I am the one telling you that it should work. I don't see why it wouldn't. I hope this makes sense hahaha it has been making me scratch my head hahah. Let me know what you think Thanks! "

So, no reason for me to buy a map version that is already 6 years old. Just sayin'

I've had my SVR for 8 years and my dealer agreed to update my GPS when I bring it in for the annual maintenance - no charge...

I am not disputing that, but you probably have an SD card system, not the USB version that is the problem here.

^^^ This is why we upgraded to the AutoABC CarPlay and AA capability.

It only cost a few dollars more than ONE map update. Now we have more capabilities (music, weather, traffic) and the map data is always up to date....

I'm looking at GTA Car Kits, more expensive but seems to have better functionality, also as I'm in Canada it's from a Canadian company so simpler to get these days. AutoABC says upto 2016MY, my car is a 2017 with Meridian which GTA have to confirm support for

autoABC DOES have kits for your 2017, you know. They list three units, 8" Harmon, 10" Harmon, and Bosch head units.
