Will a mongoose work on an 04 XJ8?

This thread is an extension of that discussion in that it is centered on three things:

1. the physical interface being a Mongoose clone

2. the Jaguar specific software SDD/IDS

3. installation of the hardware and software

The methods of obtaining #1 and #2 are contained in various posts.

The search term "mongoose" will bring up all of the few threads on JF on the subject as it is a relatively new topic.

The add for the $80 JLR Mongoose says 2005 and later. Is there an earlier version of the mongoose?

No. Look at the table of suitable cars from Jag Land Rover that i posted in this thread earlier, shows all compatibility. Sellers of Chinese clones don't know what they are talking about.

It appears you are right. Other sources say 99 and up Jags. It is 2005 and up for the Land Rover.

Received my Chinese mongoose. What operating system do I need to run SDD. I have Windiws 7 64 bit and XP . I know it is not compatible with Win 7 64 bit but I thought V131 would run on XP. I get an incompatible message on XP Home Edition SP3.

Only go up to Service Pack 2 though, SP3 won't work.

I installed XP Pro SP3 and cant get a good install. This is frustrating . What if I put Win 7 32 bit on a spare laptop?

Some folks have used WinXP SP3 and gotten away with it, who knows why. Jag Technical WOULD NOT let us do that. If we are using SP3 and something goes haywire, they leave us out in the cold. We have to get an SP2 machine or Win 7 32-bit machine before they jump back in.

In our experience the Win 7 32-bit setups work really well. I personally use an older Toughbook with XP SP2 most. Works great with a genuine MongoosePro.

I think the Win 7 on the spare machine sounds good.

Good luck!

It seems that reliable clones are notoriously hard to find.

Is there anyone in the DFW area that wouldn't mind sharing their dealer scan tool with my XJ8? I need to re-calibrate my air suspension and clear a gearbox fault code. Thanks.

Unhappy Mongoose JLR clone

I was reading this thread as i have trouble with my Mongoose JLR.
I'm using a UK SDD copy (v128) software and loaded onto my DELL INSPIRON 6400, all loaded OK and waiting for the VCM.
Bought the Mongoose off the net for £95:00 and loaded just the drivers and not the SDD software thet came with it.
Had about 4hrs worth of trouble loading the drivers and getting the laptop to see the cable but giot there in the end.
Plugged into my 2005 XKR and it gave me access all areas.
Next time i went to use it "DEAD" all i get is USB not recognised with the yellow ! over the Mongoose in control panel.
I have since formatted - re-loaded about 3 times and still i get nothing "just a RED light on the Mongoose."
Even tried loading version 131 that came with the cable - same result "nothing."
I'm nearing the point now of chucking the thing in the bin despite only using it one time only and lasting less than 2 weeks.
I've e-mailed the UK seller but it looks like he just caught the next space shuttle off the planet !!
Any help guy's would be great.

I am not one to admit defeat easily, but I have given up on trying to get SDD loaded.

Anyone want to buy a cheap mongoose?
