There are two things you can do to prevent a connection to the topix server.
-- disable wifi and wired connections on your laptop, either in windows, the bios, or both
-- put an entry in your hosts file for the topix server that points at 127.0.0.1
The first option is the better option because you may not know all of the host names that IDS/SDD talks to.
You can also ghost the current state of the machine so that if anything happens you can revert to the previous state.

Mitsubishi and Mazda are $19.95/day. Almost everyone else is under $40/day.
This might be slightly off topic, but seems like the right crowd to get an answer:
I'm looking for PIDs for the tire pressures on a 2011 XF Premium. I hope to use this with my ELM 327 and Torque Pro to monitor my actual tire pressure at will. Might need scaling factors to convert the signal to PSI, too.

I can only use it on older cars now because they also took away it's ability to retrieve newer calibration files.
With version 125.04 and newer, connect to an X350 and you get SDD because the car is newer, connect to an X308 and you get Legacy IDS because the car is older.
With version 125.03, connect to an X350 and you have the choice between SDD or Legacy IDS, connect to an X308 and, well you just get Legacy IDS...
?
Yep the pricing via Topix makes anything less than a 1-year subscription a painful waste...
Of course, it is wastefully painful in any case

OK now it's starting to become clearer...i think...

Sorry for the omission!
Cheers,
I've just discovered that the Mongoose has limitations compared to the VCM.
The Mongoose only works with the software running as SDD, whereas the VCM will let you run the software as Legacy IDS. It's a completey different format, and as it turns out, not all functions are available in the basic SDD.
Actual example right now, I bought a new CD/Radio to replace my Tape/Radio in the XJR. It didn't come with a Radio Code, but i fitted it & it didn't ask for a code, so great. Now I had the battery disconnected for a longer period, and it asks for a code. I don't have the VIN of the donor car, my original code doesn't work. So, into the SDD & try to find where I can reset the code. I've looked everywhere & tried everything, cannot find it.
Now there is a "gold key" button in the SDD, which is something to do with Locked Functions, i've now discovered is also known as Engineering Mode. Apparently in this locked function are all the sneaky wonderful things you might well need, such as how to reset a radio code.
Clicking on the key brings up a request for another password, based on a "seed" that is derived from the VIN of the vehicle you're connected to and the session number.
I have no idea where to get this password from, probably via Topix if you have a subscription, or maybe direct from Jag themselves. I've asked the guy I got the credentials from about it & he didn't know. He never saw this Golden Key before, because he uses a VCM and runs the software as IDS Legacy. Apparently in IDS Legacy there is the function to reset a Radio Code, very easy to find...
So there are a number of functions available to VCM users, that Mongoose owners can't access, without the full subscription it seems.
I'm bummed out, the whole reason I invested in the Mongoose & IDS/SDD was to solve these stupid problems, and it seems I can't....

I just found another clone for $160....
Mongoose JLR - Jaguar & Land Rover Dealer Level Diagnostics & Programming
Sounds way too cheap, and they even offer you a username & password.
That's a little too dodgy for my liking...

I had a bit of a battle getting it working but I think that was more to do with the software and Windows XP than hardware. I built a new virtual PC in the end and left it clean of anti-virus etc.
I have only had a quick play so far but it read the VIN automatically and all of the electronic modules and I was able to deflate and inflate the air suspension on my X350.
I also found a voucher code on the net to get another 5 or 6% off the list price.
I have both IDS 127 and 130 with User IDs and Passwords, but I haven't been able to get them or Windows XP to recognize the JLR with either one. XP "hardware found" wizard says it can't find the drivers, and the SDD says that "The VCM is disconnected" even when it's plugged in. Device manager lists it as "Other Device" and "Mongoose JLR?CAN w/FEPS w/ISO" but says that the driver isn't installed.
Running 130, in SDD > System Informatin > Vehicle Communications Interface Status > Details it lists both VCM and MongoosePro JLR, but when I select the Mongoose and choose Device Configuration it never recognizes the device. Instead, it stops at "Gateway Device Selection Failed" "Configuration Failed".
So, I'm hoping someone more tech-savvy than I can help!
I'm still getting tech help from China, but I would like to know how you got yours going. Would you mind sharing your experience with getting your Mongoose JLR working?

So I finally got my scan tool completed. Later on I will post photos and info of my set up and what it cost me.
Anyways I was playing around with it and did a scan of my entire car in hopes of finding some old codes. At the end of the scan it looks like it saved the data to a file but didn't automatically open to show me a run down on the data, I'm not sure if I have an issue with my ids sdd or if I have to go to a different menu to get the file.
Can any one make a quick guide on how to do a general scan of the entire vehicle and see the data?

Be sure the Windows auto update is turned OFF! Operating system updates pose a great risk of causing problems.
Also be sure you have gotten the newest firmware and interface updater from DrewTech. That brings the interface up to the MongoosePro.
Good luck!

When you say "did a scan", does that mean you found and ran the "Vehicle Scan" from the Recommendations screen?? If so, the file that "saved" is something that won't be of any value to you. What you need to see is what codes turned up in "Related Events", and also "Unrelated Events" tabs. Then there is a column that shows the module the code was pulled from, and the description of the code.

Get the drivers from drew for the Mongoose JLR, not the MongoosePro JLR.
Why are you advocating that?? What do you have against using the updater and drivers for the MongoosePro??? That makes even an early device much more compatible.
Just curious.
Just curious.
