I am trying to get an IDS diagnostics system I put together running so I can program RFID key pellets in order to start my 2006 Jaguar X-type. (Lost key/fob)
I am using a Panasonic CF74 toughbook running XP Pro SP3, with JLRIDS 118.5_V5 software. I am using an OEM Rotunda VCM 078-00496.
The software runs on the laptop, and the Rotunda links up to the car, with proper LEDs flashing/lit-up on the Rotunda, and it acts like the software wants to communicate with the car and download initial data.
When it is communicating with the car, during "processing data" it always give me a "testman" error, and the software stops. When I close the program, it follows up with a "Tabman" error.
Can anyone help me figure this out? Thanks
- Tabman error during processing data processing data just before error Tabman error when I close the program.
Jaguar Landrover Sympton Driven Diagnostics SDD DVD131 set
Includes SDD and Legacy IDS, SPA and VDF
Offline login works on computers with persistent date set to Aug 2012.
Launch of Legacy IDS needs you to replace C:\Program Files\JLR\IDS\runtime\tabman.exe with IDS118.5 version. IDS118.5 version is in zip File.
Not sure this is the problem but attached is a .zip file for Tabman IDS118.5. This was recommended when running SDD V131.
Might be worth a try?
Here is where I found it and maybe using V131 would work? SDD V131

Thanks for the input. I copied the Tabman IDS118.5 .exe file into the runtime files in the software. I started the program from this file. Unfortunately, no difference. I still encounter the same Testman error while the software is processing the data. I guess that trying version 125 is next. My issues show up in Ford forums, and I have not been able to find any posted solutions that work for me.
I installed IDS/SDD version 125 today. After figuring out how to switch to IDS classic in the 125 version, I tried to interface to the car. Same "Testman" error. Except, this time, I received a new error before the same old "Testman" error popped up.
Do you think this is related to a missing MS Virtual C Runtime software?
On the later versions of SDD I had to find and download this file.
Visual-C-Runtimes-All-in-One-Nov-2024-Vcredist
It's 100MB so too large to attach but If you can't find a version I can upload this to a sharing web site?

Thanks for the input. Another Rabbit hole to chase down. Per my "AI overview", when I searched if C++ is required to run Testman.exe, Its response stated that Testman.exe used C++ write and compile the executable, but C++ is not required to properly run Testman.exe. It states that some ".DLL" files may be required from the C++ library, but they would have been included, along with Testman.exe.
- I searched my laptop, and I don't have any version of "Visual-C-Runtimes" on this laptop,
- The new error I posted that states "Microsoft Visual C++ runtime Library", error message indicates to me the there might be a corrupt or missing (*.dll) file/s. Finding what file this is could be a real challenge.
In the meantime, I uninstalled IDS/SDD and installed 118.5 again. I wont have time to run/test it on the car today.
Progress!!! I was able to find a Dell Latitude XP Pro SP3 laptop. I loaded version 118.5 onto this computer.
I was able to get past the data collection part of IDS, and it appears that the software is working/functional.
- I guess I will have to figure out how to wipe out the current build of XP Pro on the Tough Book I purchased and start from scratch if I want to get IDS to work on this Panasonic laptop. (Lots of cussing due to hours of wasted time..)
Update and more baby steps. After installing IDS 118.5_V5 onto a different laptop (Dell versus the Toughbook) I cut 2 final Tibbe keys in new fobs with transponders.
I set up the laptop in the car, connected it to the Rotunda VCM and fired up the IDS Software.
It took about 40 minutes for the software to go through all of it data gathering steps.
Then the Software appeared to be good to go.
Worked my way though - Setup and Configuration / Security / Program Transponders and followed the instructions.
Then I received this error.... (Voltage on my battery with the charger is 13.5 volts - and I have a green battery indicator on the software.)
I am about 90% sure I have transponders for North American cars, and just to be sure, I purchased 3 spares - just in case, and swapped out the ones in the new key fobs, and received the same error message below.
- Pleas note that this is a lost key fob scenario, and no other security or module problems existed on the car before I began this saga.
There are hidden files that retain JLR information even when the program is removed.
Surefire way to get running:
Re-install windows on the Toughbook
Use the V131 that Clubairth1 has, no doubt, shared with you.
Follow the installation instructions precisely.
