Why are you doing it at all????

Are you using the heavy duty power supply as required?

Heavy duty charger connected to car...The car owner complained for harsh gear changes. No fault codes pressent so i decided to reflash the module and after that to clear adaptions.
But Invalid byte error :: 2573 apearing both as existing and as new module programming .

Some battery chargers, even jump starters, only provide 12v not 13.8 volts.
So it is a good idea to check the voltage.
You also need 20 amp minimum; 10 amp will not be enough.

I use a 25-amp regulated and smoothed power supply with variable voltage control.

What interface are you using? Is it a genuine one or a cheap Chineese made copy?

Mellow

stop clearing adapts and stop reflashing to latest software, you don’t need these even with a completely rebuilt transmission. the customer will just have to put up with bad shifting for a while

if the car runs/drives now leave it alone

Sadly, this is because a glitch/mistake in the IDS itself. The IDS is loading incorrect/incompatible files to early S-Types, which bricks the module partway through the flash process.
This actually happened to me with the exact same model a few years ago, a 2.5L V6... at the time we didn't know what caused it, but now we know...
You will not be able to reflash the TCM with IDS, SDD, or even WDS when it's in the bricked state after the failed flash.

Now that the module is bricked, there are really only two way to solve this problem and get the car back on the road.

1. find a 2nd hand transmission of the exact same spec (2.5L X202) and VIN range (there are different software for different VIN range, M44998 - M96284 and M96285 - N52047, they are not interchangeable).
If you can find an exact match donor car, then the TCM is a straight swap, no programming needed. Obviously you will never try to do any programming or adaptation clear on this replacement TCM...

2. pull out the TCM, and send it to me, we can flash it on the bench with the correct software and also clear the adaptations.
I had to do this for a forum member with an S-Type R earlier this year, exact same thing happened to him while trying to program with IDS.
He put the resurrected TCM in the car, and it was fine, just had to do a lot of driving to re-learn the adaptations (the transmission was very much worn out).

Also have a look here https://oldjaguar.com/product/tcm-pr...incl-ford-6hp/

In years gone by there would have been an option 3. that is to send the TCM to a ZF Services facility, they would have been able to flash it on the bench with their equipment (that's how it was solved for me a few years ago) but in the meantime ZF Services can't offer this anymore, the local ZF guy here tells me there is a new policy because of the Bosch/VW Dieselgate scandal, ZF will not flash any OE software to modules, it's up to the vehicle manufacturer/dealer to do it, but in this case a JLR dealer will have the same problem as you, because they use the same diagnostic tool...

It's bad news, but we can fix it.

on a working car if you really wanted to clear adapts just exit out of the ecm/tcm module configuration when it cries about the software being old right? been a while since i've bothered to do this
