Looks like its time fot a engine rebuild after engine decided to drop two valve seats cylinder 7 & 8
i thought the damage would have been worse since car was driven 300km on 6 cylinders
yes 6 k rebuild that for parts only have most parts coming from sng barratt in the uk
yes a used engine would be great but unfortunately none available in new Zealand
no used engines available in new Zealand
but there are plenty of v6 engiv6s available
Sometimes it’s better the devil you know anyway. At least you will know the true condition of this engine because you rebuilt it yourself. If you don’t cut corners and do a thorough and careful job you will have peace of mind. If you can find the dough, do the ‘while I’ve got it apart’ jobs (e.g. Timing chain and tensioners. Check all the valve guides, seats, oil seals, piston rings, etc.).
Good luck. I don’t envy you the job of rebuilding a V8 engine that is shoehorned into a space barely big enough for a V6.
Pay particular attention to the information on valve timing outlined on page 74 of the PDF (page 26 of the course). Correct timing is 45 degrees ATDC, not TDC.
Under no circumstances is the crankshaft to be rotated in an anti clock direction as damage to the main and rod bearing is the result when viewed from the front. This may not apply in your situation since you intend to overhaul the engine.
DO NOT use the crankshaft holding tool to hold the crankshaft whilst removing the front pulley 24mm bolt as damage to the timing disc is possible.
