Greetings! Nate from San Diego inquiring as to why many of the links come up "about blank" (links posted by users) with no data and many of the links in the "Sticky-How To" go to a file sharing service which I do not have access to. I presume it is because I am a new member and I am trying to do my own research on the site so I dont have to post questions where I can fond the answers myself. I recently had an inspection done on my 1996 X300 91K miles and have some questions and wanted to post for some recommendations but I am not sure if it is appropriate to post before looking to see if the answers are on the site. I am seeking recommendations to triage needed repairs and things to make sure my Jag Indy is looking for and knowledge of when I need to bite the bullet and go to the dealership for a repair quote for things like a security module that wont go into learning mode, whether its worth repairing an ABS light where a left front sensor code comes up at $1000 to replace sensor and no guarantees and mostly, a sunroof that is not resealing upon closing and water gets in at the carwash (once--I now using auto masking tape but I want to fix the problem and I am not sure if it needs a new seal or if the track needs adjustment but Jag indy wont touch the sunroof or fob programming. Do I find a new Indy or are there some things we are on our own to solve as a collective body of knowledge?
Good to see a new member and you have been looking around too. Welcome and I hope you stay with us!
A few comments on what you have found. Some of it is simply time. Nothing lasts on the Internet and we have all bought into the fantasy that the Internet is forever. It's not unfortunately and any forum is all the proof you need. Tons of dead links and empty pictures. All because of the crap companies that host pictures or links. They are unstable and unreliable as always.
So first suggestion is if you do post please post ALL pictures and documents directly to the list. DO NOT use ANY hosting web sites ever!!! That way anything you post will at least last as long as this forum does. This forum will also disappear at some point in time.
Next we recently lost a long time member (GGG) and forum moderator. He left the forum and removed all the documents he had uploaded to hosting sites. This is a real shame because as you posted he has put a ton of stuff up over the years he was on the forum. Plus he kept them all active and alive.
Next we have to understand Jaguar has completely abandoned their customers at this time. I seriously doubt you will find ANY dealer willing to work on that old of a Jaguar. In fact you may find there are no Jaguar dealers in your area anymore. Massive dealer closings all across the country. Both of the Jaguar dealers I used when I purchased my 2 Jags have closed or more likely became a Land Rover dealer only.
So you comment about using an independent shop is probably the only way you can get the car worked on. I would be glad that you have found one as independents are very hit or miss in their skills.
Now on the positive side your car is old. I know that sounds funny! All the problems have long since showed up and have been solved. So the answers are here in the forum IF you can find them and IF the pictures and other documents are still available. So please post away and do post pictures as we all like that!
One request? Use some spaces in that wall of text?
I would do some shopping as ABS sensors are not that expensive and are usually easy to find? What I do is spend the time to find the correct part number first. Jaguar does everything using the last 6 digits of your VIN. This is because they make many running changes as the problems show up. Then search on that part number. One good thing I have found about Jaguar compared to other car makers is they do keep the parts available and they transition things to Classic Jaguar parts when the factory stops supplying that part. This is NOT 100% but I do find parts availability to be pretty good.
Your best bet is to get on the forum for your car as there are experts on every model. Here is the forum for your model. Jaguar X300 Forum

Thank you for the insight and optimism! I definitely plan on sticking around and will figure out how to navigate and use this forum wisely, hopefully to the benefit of all!
The amount of knowledge from those who came before is fantastic and watching some of the common issues cropping up over the decades is fascinating...I am often tempted to reply or add a question to a post from years ago as I too am having those issues or am eager to find out what happened or what the fix was...some end before the grand finale!
Thanks again and thanks for your reply and encouragement. I will put together a post with the status of my new Jag and perhaps an invitation for comments/suggestions for a plan of attack in the coming week!
Sorry for the long post BUT I left out the most important part AND I did not answer your question!!
This is from JPART and it's free on this forum. It's a way we can keep using JEPC now that Flash Player has been obsoleted. As you can see the part numbers vary depending on the VIN of your car.
Looking at this list I would start with LNA2221AB. This is shown above as the front LH sensor. It also looks like this part is NOT dependent on your VIN either. But the rear sensors do change based on VIN.
Again don't just order this part but do some searches to see if it's been superseded or if Jaguar still offers the part. They may not.
I will leave finding the part to you!

It appears to be from a PRO but I lack the technical know how and familiarity with the X300 mechanics/electrical systems to determine if it is good advice and insight related to trouble shooting...I come from the school of its not what you think you know that gets you into trouble but what you don't know....It seems to be a well reasoned resource so far as it goes....
I was scrolling older posts searching for common X300 issues in the forum, topics to look out for and starting points if they show up for me...
I did find the right part number LHF ABS sensor and ordered it for under $50. I think the quote for the LH front ABS sensor was "we can replace it, no guarantee the code will disappear...but you might need a new ABS module for $900..." Thanks for your assistance in helping me solve my Jags issues...
I did find a front LH ABS sensor but really dont mind the light coming on without fail --and staying on after I drive a bit. I am learning there is a tendency to throw parts at problems which this forum tries to avoid with methodical diagnosis and that is where my question about the link comes into play...I wanted to confirm the diagnostics and solutions are from a credible source that we can all rely on as being vetted and informed.
Can't say about your link? It does look well done. But I am of the same opinion that repairs/replacements are done as needed. If you go down the path of replacing everything that could go wrong you will be a busy man!
Be sure and post to the forum in the section for your car. All the experts on that model will then see your post. This section is NOT for technical questions and is about the entire forum itself.
Was the part number I listed correct? $50 sounds about right for an ABS sensor. The only problem with living with this is you have no ABS. It would be a shame to skid into something because the stock ABS has not been repaired and especially when for $50 you can have a working ABS?
Remember when you solve your problem that most likely will help some else down the line. So following up and closing the thread is a common courtesy.

Thank you the assistance with parts numbers and teaching me how and where to look. Yes LHF ABS sensor is LNA2221AB1 and I got it and will ask to have it replaced and see if the Warning light goes out and that would be great! I am not sure if main Indy will work with my part but I will ask...parts supplier couldn't guarantee it will work and actually said pay me if it works and sent it along with a "Door Lock, Clock and Hazard" switch where the clock and other functions is guaranteed to work!
I will plan on broaching the subject when I take it in to San Diego Indy for several needed suspension repairs for front lower bushings, the flex coupler and a noisy AC compressor pully...I am scheming to get the sunroof serviced as it operates and closes all the way but will not fully lift and seal when closed. The motor and tilt feature do work but doe snot open fully and I am terrified to mess with it! And there's also getting a new headliner installed eventually--Ill tackle that with the sunroof.
Then some day brighten up the 30 year old original black paint crazed on the hood and getting foggy around fuel door! Knicks on the bumper I dont mind yet! External temp sensor gets error code (E---) when i hit the ext button on climate control, other wise AC works great and I think the heater works okay. I did order an external temp sensor front left bumper area and will present both to the Indy.
My goal is get mechanics/brake/engine and suspension buttoned up and then a few cosmetics/accessories along the way. I will post a lengthy invite for suggestions once I am satisfied the mechanic knows where I am at. I have a feeling his inspection while thorough didnt look as deeply at the systems as I may want. He did pull the codes though although I think I have a 1500-2000 RPM rattle which may be chain tensioner and every now and again a lumpy idle where it misses a beat...Starts up great!
