Default Vin# location please

I have the plate with car#, body#, engine#, trans#
1 Is the "car#" the actual vin# ?
or
2 Is the actual vin# located somewhere else?
~~~~~~~
I'm trying to register the car but it is not pulling up when the inspector runs the numbers from the plate
I believe it’s the car number. It should be 1Dxxxxx. There may be a P in front of the 1D for power steering.
For some reason Jaguar called the ViN different things at different times. Sometimes chassis # other times car#. Who knows why !
From what I’ve seen with older Jaguars, it can definitely be confusing. Usually, the car# on your plate is the VIN, but sometimes they used chassis# instead.
You can also double-check it by running the car#/chassis number through a window sticker by vin https://carfast.express/en/window_sticker service. Those reports often show how the factory labeled the number (car#, chassis#, etc.) and original specs, which can help when inspectors can’t match it.
Ive found that the vin check sites (or apps) wont work with anything less than the 17 digit vins. On my s-types the vin is the upper left on the plate under the hood, and that space is indeed labeled "Car No.".
First, check the requirements in the region where you plan to register your car. In some places, a manufacturer's plate and proof of year of manufacture are sufficient, while others may require additional inspections or an expert assessment.
