Smile 2001 VDP SC, a rare Cat

This is my second XJ8. The first was a 1998 we sold to the mechanic when he couldn't seem to figure out why it overheated all the time.

I bought my 2001 VDP SC in 2006 through Ebay Motors from Boston Jaguar. Had it shipped to California sight unseen and uninspected. For the price I paid, I was sure I was going to have problems with her. I've put 70,000 miles on her and nothing major has come up - and this on a Supercharged car driven up and down the mountain from Palm Springs to Big Bear many times a year. And boy, is it fun! There is nothing like a Supercharger when climbing up over Onyx Summit at 8,200 feet on a winding mountain road.

I do have a couple small - I mean little - issues now. For one, I can not get my key fob programmed. I've tried the 6 flashes mentioned in this FORUM. Apparently the VDP SC has a little different setup. Another problem is my back-up sensors stopped working. Fortunately I don't parallel park but once a year.

About a month ago, I was heading east on Interstate 10 towards Palm Springs and ran over some large pieces of wood in my lane. I had nowhere to swerve and hard braking on a 70 MPH, 4 lane, packed freeway was not an option. Broke both right side wheels, a muffler and damaged a couple front end parts. Two weeks at Desert European Motors (DEM) and I'm back on the road. Thankfully insurance took care of most of it. But my ABS light just came on. I'll try to trouble shoot it rather than another trip to DEM.

I love my Jag and so does my wife. I really can't understand why you can buy one of these cars for under $10,000. With a reported 234 produced in 2001, you'd expect the VDP SC to maintain it's value and even appreciate in value. No so. I'll tell you, if you can find one, buy it!

Welcome to the forum BigBearRusty,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Thanks for the interesting Intro. As soon as I read "
Onyx Summit at 8,200 feet on a winding mountain road", it sent me off on a Google search to learn more. Had an an enjoyable virtual trip over breakfast looking at photos of very beautiful country.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Good that no one was injured.

Follow Norri's link to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Very nice car, post some pics when you can. I spent last Saturday with some members from Seattle, and I can still hear the supercharger whine in my head. Lovely.
