Angry 2006 XK *Locked out with motor running

I stopped the car in my drive to check mail box tonight. The car key inside with My dog also and I was bringing her home after an operation. So I completely stressed to return to the car running but locked out! I had to run to the neighbours and call AA roadside (most valuable service) which took 40 minutes to sort out. Is there a setting or disable feature I should know about? Never want to go through that again. Your help much appreciated 🙏

Welcome to the forums FearnD,

At last - someone else who has had this happen! Happened to me twice with my 2007 XK. Went back to close my gates and the car had locked with the engine running and Smartkey in my jacket pocket lying on the passenger seat. I had to use the emergency key blade from the spare Smartkey to open the door.

Never happened with my 2014 - only with the early model.

Welcome to the Forums.

Not aware of Jags self locking like that, but other makes have had Gremlins that do it.

2006 was a model change for the XK, Steel (X100) body, Alloy (X150) body.

The members in the related Tech Section will have answers I am sure.

Good luck.

I've assumed FearnD has an XK which was available in the UK, Europe (and also AUS/NZ?) in 2006 and not XK8 which ended production in 2005 but could be wrong ........

Hi all 👋🏼 Yes it’s a 2006. I’ve only had it a few months. After covid19 lockdown I had to replace the alternator and battery last week. I was wondering if this may have reset some security function as I often get out of the car to shut the gate and it’s never happened before. Pretty gob smacked that such a function would be in a car really! I desperately want to disable this as I said I live on a farm and shut gates ...... got to keep the sheep 😁

Wow - farming HAS advanced since my youth. I had to use a Ferguson T20, not a Jaguar.

I was also puzzled by the lockout. Car sitting about thirty metres away as I closed the gates and the lesson I learned after the second time was to keep the Smartkey in my trouser pocket. The only thing I could attribute it to was, as I used the car most days at the time, not keeping it on a CTEK overnight was allowing the battery to partially discharge.
