Default Back for more! (With an x350!)

I haven't posted in this forum or read many posts since the tragic demise of my beloved xj6 in October of 2018, when I was rear ended by a kid in an suv while I sat at a red light. He hit it hard, and the car took the impact. Fortunately, my 3 yo grandson, who was in the back seat, was uninjured.
So...about a week ago I bought a 2004 xj8 with 181,000 miles on it. The body and interior are in great shape, although the powered sun roof will not operate for some reason and is affixed with stylish duct tape in the closed position. The motor starts up and runs pretty smoothly, although with some occasional rattling for a second or two after starting. The transmission seems to work smoothly.
I'm really impressed with the power and speed of the car, although I've only had it up to a little over 90 mph. It handles pretty well, but I just came back from my friendly local mechanic who put it on the rack and helped melocate a few bushings that need replacing which will hopefully eliminate the clunking noise over harsh bumps. Apparently the air shocks have already been replaced with coil over gas shocks, which seems like a good thing.
When I went to pick it up last week, we had to jump start it after it sat for 5 or six days. My biggest immediate concern is the cel coming on after 120 miles and a couple of codes, p1638 in particular. I erased the codes with my obdii scanners, and am waiting for all the sensors to reset, 100 miles later.. I also had a code for low temperature, but I suspect a new thermostat will fix that one.
I expected to have to put a little $$$ into it to get it up to speed, so I'm not discouraged...yet!
I'd love to hear any suggestions or thoughts from experienced xj8 owners, mechanics, and tinkerers!

Welcome back to the forums James,

Any recent or current model Jaguar is very sensitive to battery condition and a partially discharged or failing battery can throw all kinds of weird codes and error messages. Best eliminate that first as a possible cause of the codes.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x350-x358-28/ to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, James,
Congratulations on your Latest Jaguar!
I remember your report of the rear end collision soon after it happened. It's good to see you "back in the saddle" as it were.

Welcome back to the forums from ElinorB.
