Default David

Hi there
I am new to this forum.

I have a 2005 XK8 which has been left for a time. The battery went flat. I fitted a new one but the car won't start. I'm thinking it's the immobilizer (UK model) but cannot remember how to reset this. I recall a reset being necessary once before and maybe turning the key one way or the other a few times.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you very much. I'm a little confused about how this all works.

Welcome to the forums David,

I'd be very surprised if it is the immobiliser but here is the location behind the trim panel:

Thanks for this. Possible since the fuel wasn't getting through.

Is this the same as the immobiliser to prevent theft though. I thought UK models had this fitted.

Thanks again.

If you refer to the security system, it will stay set even if the battery is removed and then replaced. As you must have entered the vehicle and it hasn't triggered the alarm, this must have been deactivated with either remote or key.

My next thought would be the chip in the key is not being picked up by the transponder on the ignition switch. This was a common fault on XJ40 but is not unknown on X100.
