Greetings from South Africa. Jaguar x-type owner
Greetings: I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I recently got 2006 Jaguar x-type 2.0, V6.
Car buying experience: I have always struggled to buy a car, generally because either every car almost looks the same or I just likedsomething different, something that makes one skip a bit. See, in our shores Jaguar is not the common car, not that common any ways. So, whenever someone rocks up on a Jag, I would always think ‘there goes a brave person who isliving their dream’. Actually I think people who dare to buy these cars really love them, I do too. Upon getting to this site, I realized I am not the only one. I have always loved Jaguar x-type, actually I loved s-type but the Ruling Party at home was against it for reasons only known to her.
My heart broke when I heard the x-type is discontinued, I was giving up on searching for it. Whenever I look on internet, I would see those who are sold either having 200 000kms or in a bad shape. I was giving up, started looking at Mercs c-classes, BMW 3 series and even Lexus IS250. Those were nice cars, but did not speak to me. I actually thought they do not have a soul. In December last year, this car was advertised. I would ignore it but the price and mileage were so right, so was the interior that I kept coming back to it. Eventually I called the people, they sent me more pics. I harvested as much info and prepared a presentation for the Ruling Party at home. She was mildly impressed but loved the interior and mileage.
Mid-January, I gambled, flew 1500kms to Cape Town look at the car. I got there, the car was nicer in person. It had 122 000kms, full service history, in pristine condition and really couldn’t find any fault except to be informed that it needed front shocks. I bought the car and I drove it back 1500kms only stopping for refuel and a power nap of 2 hours. To date, I am too happy about the car. I have covered 7000kms already, except for ave fuel consumption sitting at 11.8l/100kms in city, I was happy this weekend to see 10.8l/100kms on the return from Durban with the average speed of 130kms/h. Problems so far (I can’t even call them faults), I have replaced front shocks at R9800 at Jaguar Bryanston. Refitted the coolant tank – I think they broke it when they were taking out shocks. I bought it and fitted it myself. I am not afraidof fixing cars (thanks to sites like this and google).
I am happy, I never thought a car can bring so much joy tome. People think I paid to money, I do feel rich driving. People cannot believe it is 10 years old. Anyways, shall keep my eyes on this site to appreciate this car much more.
Regards,
Khaye (South Africa).
