Default Greetings from Texas!

Hello,

I've recently purchased a 2002 Jaguar S-Type with 62K miles. Very clean and has been garage kept. I've owned several used Mercedes, am a retired mechanical engineer and artist, and do all my own mechanic work. I've learned to find valuable hard-to-find info on forums such as this so thank you to all who post here!

The car I purchased a week ago had some minor problems which I've mostly fixed in the past few days: blown fuse for dome lights, windshield washers not working, cigarette lighter not working, dry-rotted tires (guess it sat too long) and trunk release button (on dash) and trunk button (Jag symbol on trunk) not working (though the remote does unlock it).

I've fixed most issues except the trunk button which I'll work on later this week. The fuse in luggage compartment for trunk is good, not sure what's keeping it from working. When dash release button or Jag-logo-trunk-button is pressed, nothing happens. Any suggestions appreciated.

The windshield hose was plugged with crud between the two hood spray nozzles; no fluid would spray out either nozzle when the windshield washer button was pressed inside the car. First I verified the pump on the bottom of the washer reservoir was good by taking its hose off and watching it squirt when activated. I then took the rubber hose-line off between the two spray nozzles on the hood (located underneath the hood insulation), blew the hose out with compressed air and some black crud shot out, put the hose back on and the windshield washer worked great!

For the cigarette lighter, I found on these forums the procedure to remove the center console and was able to remove the lighter housing from the console. Using an ohm-meter I confirmed the lighter itself was bad, one of the contacts was broken, so have that on order from local Jag dealer for $34.

I've ordered four new tires 225 55 R16 95H from walmart.com for $334 and they arrive in a few days. Mount, balancing and road-hazzard warranty will cost another $110.

In the meantime, I've installed a CURT trailer hitch (amazon.com for $132) and Curt Jag trailer wiring harness (etrailer.com for $20) to pull my small utility trailer which I use for many purposes including transporting my power wheel chair when needed.

Love this car so far!
Paul

Welcome to the forum Paul,

(Your thread was automatically locked for moderation because you put an emoji in the thread title. I've removed it and unlocked the thread.)

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

That's an impressive "to do" list you've got through in the first week. It sounds like you've alrready found the relevant model forum but if not, follow this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link

Enjoy the forums.
