Default Hello; Prospective Owner

Hello,
I've fed up my girlfriend with my Land Rover Disco 2 enough that she is pushing me to sell it. Of course if I were to sell it and get a non SUV I might aswell go big and once again British so here I am. Ive done quite a bit of research since I've been looking since before she has been pushing for it and do have a few questions and would like some advice from owners.
Im interested in the XK8 (X100) XJ8, and XJR (X308)

Starting with the XJs, how easy is it to fit a supercharger to an XJ8? And do the changes in trim trim and suspension still make getting an R over an 8 desirable? In addition is the increase in power from the R even noticable and worth it in the first place?

For the XK8, (the XKRs while fantastic are a bit too expensive still) is there anyone who has experience with both the X100 and X308s and can provide some comparisons? Because as it stands I really can't decide whwhi one I would prefer haha.

Thank you, and if this isn't an appropriate place Im sorry and will re post this to the respective forums, I figured If I were to make an introductory post I might as well get it all out there.

Welcome to the forum JDyer,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I've run LR's, X100's and X308's in the past. Totally different vehicles and my choice has been determined by transportation needs at the time. If 4 seats and reasonable luggage capacity is one of your requirements then the X100 is off the list.

Supercharging a normally aspirated X308 will certainly be more costly than buying an XJR in the first place. An absolute essential for running a used Jaguar is either the willingness and ability to do your own maintenance and repairs or to have sufficiently deep pockets to pay someone to do it for you.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the X308 forum and this one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Just depends what you want. The X100 and X308 have pretty much the same drivelines so maintenance and repair issues as far as keeping them roadworthy are the same. The R versions add stiffer suspension, rubber band tires and supercharging which yes is significant, but also include a more robust transmission, bigger brakes, etc. Unlike older cars that could be turbocharged or supercharged with aftermarket components, the electronic systems on these cars are multiple modules in a network and it could become hideously complex to upgrade. As already said, cheaper to buy the R in the first place. If you want the power, but also the smoother ride, there's also a Super V8 version of the XJ8 with a supercharger and standard suspension, tho quite rare. The other differences should be obvious. If its imperative to keep the gf happy, then take her along for the test drives. Going from an SUV, both of these are the other extreme, very low to the ground and some people find it hard to get in and out of them, especially as they get older or put on a few pounds. Good luck.
