Default Help with a screenplay?

Hopefully this is a bit of a different post for you all and one or two of you will enjoy it. For anyone who is interested, I’d love a bit of advice. I’m writing a movie in which a character gets locked in the boot/trunk of a car. He’s stuck in there for about an hour, before managing to use a screwdriver to open the latch. I’m thinking it’s a late ‘90s XJR but I’m open to suggestions for what car it should be (doesn’t have to be a jag!)
Unfortunately, I drive a Honda Jazz, so researching first-hand is a bit difficult. I have two main questions for you experts:

1. Is it believable that you’d be stuck in there for an hour without being able to force your way out? I know a modern car with folding seats would take about thirty seconds to kick your way out of. Any ideas for a car that would make this a more believable storyline?

2. Could the driver hear someone speaking in the boot? And vice-versa, would the person in the boot hear conversations happening up front? In the story, our hero eventually pokes a hole in the rear seats with his screwdriver so he can see and hear his captors.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to the Forums.

No 1st hand knowledge.

The Jag you mentioned has the fuel tank in the front section of the boot, so voices may be hard to hear?????

As for opening, NOPE, never tried.

Most cars within the last Several years have Glow-in-the-dark emergency release handles in their trunks for the exact scenario you are suggesting. I suppose it could have got chewed off by vermin? Or just find one without that feature.

That pretty much rules out the XJR because the fuel tank sits directly above the rear wheels, between the trunk and the back seat. Also our X300/308s have a very shallow trunk compared to modern cars. I'd hate to be stuck back there. Most adult males would have a very hard time turning around from facing forward to backward. Could you change the time frame of your movie from the late 90s to the late 60s? The 69 Plymouth Fury III has a massive trunk - room for the actor, the cameraman and all of his equipment.

More seriously tho, maybe look into the Panther platform cars, i.e. Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Marquis, Lincoln Town Car.
