Wyoming based. Soonish to be Tennessee. Just bought a 2003 XJ8 Vanden Plas sight unseen for $250. The engine is taken apart In the photos, so I’m guessing it needs a new one. Please point me in the direction of where to start!

Thank you Graham! I subscribed and added a signature. Been browsing everything I can. Going to pick this car up today!
Tyler,
At that price you can't lose.
With the heads removed, I suspect the owner has probably had an overheat which is not uncommon on these engines. You should ask where they are because I can't see them in the photo!
Welcome. That's what's sometimes referred to as a "basketcase" but the price was right. You can't lose. It can certainly be daunting to reassemble and reinstall a motor that you did not take apart yourself. A friend of mine tackled a project like that once. What he did was to buy another running/driving car exactly like the project car to use as a model and then sold it when he was done. He also swapped a few parts from the model that were cosmetically in better shape than the parts in the "basket". Short of buying another XJ8, maybe find your local Jaguar club and make friends with another local X308 owner. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed with the quality of the drawings in the JTIS and not sure there's enough detail like you need. Its better than nothing but the drawings often don't look much like the real thing. Too bad its not a vintage Corvette or you could buy a copy of the factory Assembly Information Manual. I don't know if there's any equivalent for the X308. Would be awesome if there was.
Thank you! I’m watching another auction for the same year, same 8th digit, not the Vanden Plas. It’s running and driving with 65k on it and there’s no bids yet. The rear end got mangled in an accident but the rest is pristine. Same interior as mine too. Btw, I plugged a jumper into the battery and found this one has 86k on it. Also, the fuel pump works well lol
