Default Just bought another Jag after a million yrs.

Good Morning All,

Currently in Syracuse, NY visiting kids and bought a 1996 XJS 2+2 Convertible. Car is in great shape (84K miles) and plan to drive it back to Venice, Fl where we live. Just sold my 560 SL Merc after 12 yrs. of ownership and 188K miles.

The last Jag I owned was in 1965 and it was a XK 140 Drop head coupe. Boy do I miss that thing....that's why I wanted another Jag.

Going to need lots of information because I do all of my own repairs!! Unfortunately there were no manuals with this car, so.... expecting that I will ask lots of questions.

The Merc forum was very good at responding to questions!!

I've owned a lot of British sports cars in my life (pushing 70) and I always loved them even with all their faults.......Lucas!!!!

For now thanks for letting me be a part of this experience and look forward to our discussions.

Hi
ive just joined forum. I recently bought a 1996 Celebration Sapphire blue convertible too. It’s done a genuine 71,000 miles with full service history. The previous owner tried to resolve the problem by taking it into Jaguar in New York but their diagnostics weren’t able to talk to the car’s electronics. So in other words it was a lost cause. I just love this car. It was a car originally bought new in Michigan and I now have it in South Florida. I travel between London U.K. and Miami. I was interested to read your posts relating to check engine light issues. I have recently had a lot of work carried out mainly because the car has not been used for the last 5 years. The check engine light still continues to come on .
o2 sensors, spark plugs, catalytic converter, fuel sender unit, air conditioning components, mass air flow sensor have all been replaced. All coils were checked and 3 were found to be bad so they were replaced. Fuel injectors all checked and were ok. Car idles at 600 revs is sometimes lumpy sometimes ok. If you disconnect mass air sensor when idling it runs better but rich. When you drive it you hit a flat spot and you can accelerate out of it. I would dearly love to have this problem resolved. My mechanic is at a loss to know what to do next. Misfire is the constant message that cones on the scanner. I would describe this misfire as a permanent problem not intermittent. He suggested I try a jaguar dealer will have more sophisticated equipment so it’s worth a try.
if you can offer any advice it would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much.
im currently in Florida.
