New to Jaguar and the forum to learn about these cars, particularly the 1996 - 2005 XK / XKR. Lifelong automobile enthusiast and racer.

My wife and I are enamored with the XK / XKR. We are considering a nice collectible car fits in with us; she prefers the convertible and I prefer the coupe, but either is fine. The car will be used on weekend trips and sunny days, and have appropriate storage and maintenance.

Racing background most recently is in SCCA running a 2006 Mustang in Touring 4. Photo attached. Between race cars right now; not sure what might be next.

The goal is to increase knowledge of the XK / XKR where we can make a wise purchase. Other than the plastic tensioner / timing chain issue and convertible top hydraulics, they appear to be reasonably solid cars.

Welcome to the forums rgrunenwald,

Good to have you with us.

The 1996-2005 steel bodied two door (factory code X100) is the XK8/XKR. The XK/XKR (factory code X150) is the aluminium bodied two door which superseded it and was in production from 2006-2014.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums and the search for your Jaguar.

Graham

Welcome to the Forums.

We tried that "fit in" thing years ago, one for her, one for me, that ended at 8, oops.

Now down to 2, and sensibility as we age gracefully, HA.

Good luck
